NBA 2016-2017 Season Thread - Page 1468

clips-spurs has been an interesting series. really hard-fought if not particularly well-played. lot of it is good defense, but a lot of it is just seeing who is going to FU the least. look at it this way -- the clips are one of the leading three-point shooting teams in the league and they're shooting under 30% (and worse than that if you exclude a hot game 1). And they're still tied with the defending champs, going home. anything could happen (which is not the way i was feeling yesterday morning).

Home court advantage means close to nothing in the series, which is something I really hope changes in tomorrows game.

Going to be a crazy Saturday, Game7 and MayPac fight almost at the same time. Guess just got to hope the undercards all go 12 rounds so the game finishes up before the main event begins.

hey, how would you feel if you were watching a guy you pay $10 million a year shoot 40% from the free throw line?

I'd feel like he wasn't worth the $.

Balmer is so crazy I can't even deal with it. He's just. So. Weird.

God I hope the clippers win.

Btw smart people have said that pop has straight up coached a poor series. He has hacked at poor times, with very poor strategy, and had questionable rotations (not playing Duncan enough last game, patty mills vs Parker). Hacking has honestly let the clippers back into a couple games.

I just smh on how stupid they are because at the end of the day they're not boycotting anything Rockets related and will still buy tickets, watch on tv, buy jerseys, etc. The Rockets organization aren't going to give 2 shits because they're still going to get their money.

This is dumb. A. Whyyyyy do they need to be smarter than this. Do you know a single person who was actually offended, and why in the world would they be?

B. Obvvvvviously the rockets care a great deal about social media. They paid a guy to run it, they use it as advertisement all the time (as everyone does), and they just proved they cared by firing a guy because of some made-up controversy.

Bah humbug on the Clippers.

What smart people? No one out coaches Pop. Ever.

That said, this Spurophile is worried.

people always say that about nba coaches, because what nba coaches do is so hard to quantify. as a clips fan, i'd say pop is a big part of what has kept the spurs in the game, even when they haven't played well. his roster rotations force the clips to make moves they wouldn't rather make. and his hack-a-jordan in game 4 was, i thought, the biggest single factor in the game. the clips had been running with the home crowd behind them and he killed both of those.

Pops only mistake IMO is not benching Parker more, he's been the Manu of 2013. Otherwise, he's done some great coaching with a team hurting for fitness. For example, when he switched to a 3-2-1 zone... impeccable timing.

Should be a fun game, regardless.

haralabos voulgaris has been a supremely vocal critic (said he's done a bottom 5 coaching job this series, and someone like brooks would have been excoriated if he had done the stuff pop has), simmons has mentioned it, some of the starters. i think also seth partnow and nate duncan. put it this way, you haven't read as much glowing praise of pop this round, have you?

sure you might remember game 5 (i think you mean 5) where it helped. what about game 2 and game 6? spurs were doing very well w/o hacking in each of those games, and fully let the clips back into them when he started hacking. he fouled out important players due to hacking. he's extending the game by hacking super early in the shot clock while ahead. i'm not saying everything he's done is wrong. but a lot of what he's done hasn't made any sense to me.

last game he started hacking when the spurs, at home, after weathering the 1st Q clips storm, were up by 9 in the 2nd and humming. then the game got all disjointed, duncan got in foul trouble from hacking, and the spurs didn't extend their lead whatsoever. the spurs were rolling at home, and then the game got all weird. then duncan ended up only playing 31 minutes and only had 4 fouls. real mismanagement.

earlier in the series he was hacking when chris paul was on the bench, which makes no sense.

the big qualm some have w/ the hacking is that it really gunks up the spurs offense, honestly. they don't score nearly as efficiently against a set defense off of hacking.

i tentatively think w/o hacking the spurs probably would have already won the series.

Hacking works better at the Clips home court imo....just because it takes all the air out of the arena
