fucking hate duke. and kentucky. and kansas. and louisville. and Connecticut

same damn 5, 6 teams every single year. i hate these 1 and done teams so much. i love it when the older more experienced but less athletic underdog team beats the 1 and done big 5 team

Haha, Bo Ryan was salty as fuck in his post game interview, saying he doesn't "do rent-a-player". What a hypocrite. He's been known to recruit one-and-dones. If Jahlil Okafor says he wants to play for you, you don't say "no, motherfucker, not unless you stay all four years".

I didn't watch the game, but I also like seeing a 3rd or 4th year guy get to the final and win it. The one and done thing is why college ball is lame and I don't bother tuning in, as a spectator, you don't develop relationships with these guys over the course of a few seasons. And it's why I talked about doing away with the current structure altogether, and even let college teams be a flavor of semi-pro.

It's not the same. A program like Wisc. might have a few, but they usually don't gravitate there. His comment was intended to say "look, I got here without your elite recruiting classes", which is true.

To me it sounds like he was just upset he lost such a close (championship) game. Instead of saying he was out-coached, he said Duke had talented freshmen, but Wisconsin had talented upperclassmen and he was able to beat Kentucky. So what exactly is he trying to say?

I could understand if Duke's players never went to class and practiced 100% of the time (which to my understanding is a violation of the rules), but that's a matter you need to talk with the directors about, not bring it up during a press conference to make yourself look like a whiner.

Yeah, Bo Ryan was just coming off like a hater.  If he's mad that he can't get talented one-and-done's to come to Wisconsin, he has nobody but himself to blame for that.  He's in charge of recruiting players and getting them to buy into the team.  Coach K built the program at Duke from the ground up to the point where it's seen as an elite basketball school everywhere, and thus players gravitate to Duke.  Lute Olson did the same thing at Arizona.  If Wisconsin doesn't have that kind of pedigree, then Ryan has his work cut out for him.

It's a fact that Ryan tried really hard to recruit Diamond Stone, a 5-star recruit who is ranked as the #2 center in the class of 2015 and #7 in ESPN's top 100 (in other words, he's a one-and-done).  He's from Milwaukee, so Ryan had the homer advantage and he still struck out on him.  Better luck next time, bruh.

Everyone hates Duke, so I'm not sure how he's any different than most everyone else

Diamond Stone? Is that a real name and not a stripper or Bond villain pseudonym?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking at first, as well.  Dude's legit, though.  Played pretty well in the McDonald's All-American game.  Maryland's got a pre-season top-5 class with him.  And I've seen some crazier names...Yourhighness Morgan stands out...

And this is not Bo Ryan's finest hour. Not only did you fail to stop Sauron from conquering middle Earth, but you publicly cry like a bitch afterwards. You lost! Have some dignity FFS

Also the quality of the game is not very good. Look at all these early round tournament games where teams weren't even scoring 60 points. Teams would barely run an offense, just pass around the 3 point line without much movement before either taking a wild drive or jacking up a contested 3. It was an event to see a pick and roll.

I guess it's hard to run serious offense given the rules and how long the players stick around. Either way, it's pretty ugly basketball until the later rounds of the tournament.

Funny though, JJ Redick was talking about how he hates college ball and can't stand to watch it. He was getting excoriated for it, guess college bball fans still hate him from his time at Duke.

35 second shot clock also slows down the pace of men's bball. I don't get why women use a 30 second shot clock but the men use a 35 second clock. Cut it down to 30 seconds. I can understand why the NCAA doesn't want to do 24 since then it will be too similar to the NBA and they want to differentiate themselves but 35 is too long.

Ok, back on topic, what the flying fuck is this...?

That's either a massive brain fart or the ref had some money on the line...

The quality of the NCAA game has always been a lot worse than NBA - what game isn't? You should watch some foreign league games on TV if you have an opportunity to...it will show you how spoiled we are for having the NBA.

Nobody is expecting NBA quality ball, but the game is much worse than it was even in the fairly recent past. One and done and rules changes have really made it hard to watch if you like decent basketball. They can't even pull the "at least they have fundamentals" card anymore.

I haven't watched much this year, so I'll have to take your word for it. But I think it's been relatively bad for a long time. I feel that for a long time you tuned into the NCAA to either see some transcendent kid be a man among boys, or watch a bunch of scrappy kids lay it all out on the floor and have crazy shit happen. Not necessarily for the fundamentals
