makes for good trash talking too, when the big bad one seed starts ducking low seeded opponents laugh.gif

also if your team gets picked your going to have a huge chip on your shoulder

good point @LawrenceMD, i forgot about the opt-out. altho i don't remember ever seeing a max contract opt-out clause for a player that wasn't an outright superstar? nobody this offseason is at that level, although kawhi might be after the playoffs. teams might be much less willing to give the 2nd-tier that option.

Wow... and I get accused of bad ideas.

Gonna have to side with idnfl on this one (gasp!). When you really think about it, no amount of "chip on your shoulder" is going to suddenly make an 8th seed be able to compete with a 1 seed. Because let's be real, other than the case of wanting to avoid OKC (who aren't really as much of a threat now), it's most likely going to end with 1st picking 8th, 2nd picking 7th, and so on anyway.

The top seeds are thinking about winning a title, so it would be pretty pathetic for them to not be able to take out the 8th seed. How are you going to say you're the champion if you're dodging opponents?

It does make me think that if that option were in place, MJ's Bulls might have just picked the #2 seed and taken them out in round 1.

Not only that, but it would lead to 4-0 sweeps and more shit games, as picking intentional mismatches = blowouts.

What really needs to happen is division champs affecting seeding. I just needs to be 1-8 or 1-16 if this east-west crap is finally abandoned.

Is Boozer still capable of feeling embarrassed about what happens on a basketball court?

Not the way those shots were dropping! That was ridiculous… Irving and Smith literally could not miss.

Sure but it'll be a more fun game if the 8th seed has a chip on their shoulder

Also teams would pick match ups that are to their advantage not necessarily by seeding and it's not just the first round you're looking into

^ I suppose they can try it for one year and see how it turns out? Didn't they mention they experimented with it in D-League in the podcast? And yeah, I agree with your point on match-ups (Dallas 8th did take San Antonio 1st to seven games last year) but I still feel like it'd be a hollow gesture to have them pick their opponents. Just my 2 cents

yeah i was trying to think what else could happen if it were implemented and you're right it might it just end up being a hollow gesture. but i was thinking if you had a weak frontcourt like the heats last year you would do your best to make sure the pacers get picked on the other side so that you don't meet them until the conference finals and there would be all these fun mindgames and matchups. maybe you're not looking for the best first round matchup but the second round matchup
