As far as I can tell, he's played about 50 games, some with limited minutes.

I've always liked Bogut. The guy is a walking pair of crutches but at full strength, he's still a force. He put Gobert in his place easily. Out-muscled him and maneuvered him all over, some slick passes too. After a while, Gobert looked lost and exposed.

he's great for how long he's been in the league (not even 2 years). dude was dominant at defense off the bench this season and he's been great as a starter. he's the main reason why they traded kanter. it's a legit question whether he can keep that up over a season, but there's no reason to think he won't be a great defensive player for years to come. this situation has nothing in common w/ someone like lin, or even hassan whiteside. gobert is 22 and hasn't been dumped by multiple teams.

he's not good at offense yet; it's a work in progress. he's shown good potential as a passer, and maybe as a drummond/deandre-type rim roller, but not much more than that.

he's not all-star level yet or anything, but that's absolutely his potential. if they did his draft over again, he would certainly go at least top 3.

idfnl doesn't know anything as usual.

lin is a terrible example. lin was really dependent on context. with d'antoni lin had shooters around him so he could drive and score (one of his strengths), one of the greatest roll men (another strength), a fast pace, and a point guard dominant system that had the ball in his hands a lot. he was never a really good shooter himself so he's not great in off ball situations. in houston since rockets had harden with the ball in his hands what they really needed at the point guard position was a guy who could defend and play well off ball and beverly turned out to be better for that. lakers just have shit everything including the top 3 dumbest coach in the league who knows zero anything. a break out point guard is really context dependent. like remember kendall marshall and his breakout under d'antoni? dude was just waived by the bucks. he can be a great point guard but needs the right situation

a break out 7'2' rim protector does not all of a sudden drop 6 inches in height and lose his rim protecting ability. the closest example would be larry sanders and larry sanders would've still been great rim protector if he didn't have personal issues. a rim protector is valuable in every situation and is not context dependent

gobert was one of the biggest reasons why france upset spain in the 2014 FIBA cup. dude out defended marc gasol, pau gasol, and ibaka without noah and it turns out that was not a fluke cuz he did all tournament long and he's been doing it all season in limited minutes. that's a sample size of almost 80 games and it's pretty obvious that he's one of the most dominant defensive centers right now and for the future. lin was older and had a 12 game sample size before he got injured and took the rest of the year off

so stop talking about lin like it says anything about gobert.

Bogut held him without a field goal yesterday, but I'm the one that doesn't know what I'm talking about.

You've got a long leaper who makes a decent pass, changes shots, but an offensive game miles away from being polished. Shit free throw shooter. It took the league 20 or 30 games to figure Lin out and the same will happen here. He won't feast like this forever.

The word "upside" is getting tired. And please stop with the NBA's newest favoritist buzz word, "rim protector". I always thought these were just centers.

Yes, because good players never have one bad game EVER...It's ridiculous how myopic this point of view is, but then I remember who we're talking to again...

Spurs throttled the Hawks today. In Atlanta.

The way he was getting hyped here, a bad game was 20 and 20.

no you really dont know what you'retalking about

bogut is one of the best defensive centers and oh look bogut also only made 8 points yesterday rolleyes.gif. it's a retarded point to begin with. he barely averages 10 points since all star break. his strength is defense not offense. if you wanted to make a point about how not good gobert is you would have to point out the opposing frontcourt's offense

newest buzz word? are you serious? cuz all centers are good rim protectors right?

Bogut's scoring is irrelevant. Quote where I said Gobert is "not good" or anything like that.

Front court last night, GSW got a lot of quality baskets at the rim, Bogut moved Gobert around easily and helped the offense create uncontested shots, nullifying his presence. His positioning was exposed.

Not all centers are good "rim protectors" (they were shot blockers in Ben Wallace's day) and not every player has "upside" a "motor" or is a "floor spacer". 10 years ago it was "wingspan". It's filler to make someone appear in the know.

GUYS I WATCHED THIS 2ND-YEAR PLAYER PLAY ONE GAME AGAINST A HISTORICALLY GOOD TEAM THAT LEADS THE LEAGUE IN OFFENSE AND DEFENSE AND HE DIDNT TAKE OVER THE GAME.

FLASH IN THE PAN!!

My mind boggles at the number of unintelligent things said here. Just incredible.

Oh so tempting but I give up

So about Rudy Gobert nicknames....I heard two new one today -

The Gobstopper
and
The French Rejection
Love the french rejection. I'm not a fan of stifle tower

He is only 23 with 2 years experience behind him.

He will get better.

The jury is out then...

BTW, even Lebron or Tony have shit games by their very high standard...

Stats must be looked at the end of the season.
