What's he worth to you?

As a 3rd Team All-NBA selection (meaning he's a top-6 guard in the league while Bill Simmons ranked him as the 4th best PG in the league and voted for him to be 2nd Team All-NBA), anyone offering him less than the max has no chance of signing him.  All this "in a vacuum" bullshit that functions as the premise for your lowball figures just doesn't fly.  Just pay him the fucking league minimum, then.  Dragic has no choice but to take it in whatever universe you're in.

Yeah. League minimum. As I've said, there are maybe 6 or 7 guys worthy of a max in the league. Just because someone rates a guy doesn't mean you overpay.

Why are you so focused on whether a player gets overpaid?

Heats can't give him a 5 year contract without paying him max and they designate him

http://www.spotrac.com/nba/rankings/point-guard/

There's only two point guards in all of NBA that jump out to me as overpaid and both of them definitely deserved their contracts at the time. One of them so deserved it they had a league cap rule named after him. Getting overpaid is not the issue. In general players get underpaid.

Dragic signed his contract in 2012 for 4 years for 7.5 mill a year when cap was like 60 so like 12.5% of cap. Turns out this was an amazing deal for a borderline all star. New cap is like 90 mill so extrapolating he will get at least 11 mill. He'll probably get 15 or 16 if you undervalue him. We'll see how he fits with heats but he probably will play like he deserves it.

It also doesn't matter what you think he deserves. What matters is what the league GMs think he deserves.

So let's hear how you made up this number of 8 or 9 mill

i don't know if dragic is worth a max considering he'll be 29 and he's only had one year of all-star talent, but i think it's hard to say he's worth less than 14 at least.

he's averaging 33.4 mpg this year as opposed to 35.1 mpg last year, what timeshare is this? do you mean sharing the ball?

Why does Dragic look 45 years old?

Side note, you guys are completely missing IDFNL's genius. If you pay borderline all-stars $8-9 mil a year it means you can stockpile 9 or 10 of them which would make it nearly impossible to lose. You don't need max players to win, you just need a bunch of 2nd and 3rd team All-NBA guys. I don't know why every team isn't stacking their rosters that way.

He didn't say it tho. A person "close with his thinking" said it. He hasn't played with heats yet and heats can offer more.

because borderline all stars don't get signed for just 8 or 9 mill. The only way you get that deal is if you draft the guy or you see the potential in a non all star player before any other team does and offer a bigger offer than them which idfnl wouldn't go for because that's overpaying. Dragic wasn't a borderline all star when he was signed for 7.5. Harden wasn't an MVP candidate when he signed for max. GSW wouldn't budge on love for klay and Lee and instead offered klay 17.5 mill which idfnl thought was overpay and turns out it would be underpay if GSW could offer more

what these players need to realize is that it's a privilege to play in the nba. these millenials are complaining about getting 9,000,000 dollars a year for playing a child's game while hard-working americans are working to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps. just another symptom of the take-take-take welfare society created by the wussification of america. if these players aren't happy then they should take a hike. any regular american would be glad to take their jobs.

Focused on how overpaying is so pervasive, and so many bad contracts exist. You think 7.5 mil is an amazing deal? Ok then, so you never answered... what do you think he's worth?

LOL. I love this "borderline allstar" bullshit. So all allstars are max players, folks. Check your premise, you'll realize you're saying some stupid shit.

I love how everyone is bandwagoning overpaying players so they can blame them when they don't win championships. The GM is at fault for signing them. If you overpay, it means you see something everyone else is missing (unlikely), and considering how rare it is to see overpaying pay off, it's idiotic. You can point to a few cases where it pans out, yippee. But there's a reason Simmons publishes a column on shit contracts every year.
