NBA 2016-2017 Season Thread - Page 1325

haha, did you see this one?

simmons' trade value column is up, reminding me that i have no idea how to evaluate trade value for players on rookie contracts. but he did go over billy king's worst trades, which is seriously defiantly atrocious. like it's honestly beyond mind-boggling how he's still employed. and this list is JUST FOR THE NETS!! he got fired from the 6ers and they all hate him! look at this:
Quote:
DEFCON 5: The Horrendous Brook Lopez Trade That’s Coming (in progress).

DEFCON 4: Landed Deron Williams for Favors, Devin Harris, a 2011 unprotected first-rounder (no. 3 overall: Enes Kanter) and another protected first-rounder (2013: no. 21, Gorgui Dieng).

DEFCON 3: Landed soon-to-be free agent Gerald Wallace for expirings and a top-three protected first-rounder in 2012 (no. 6 overall: Damian Lillard … egads!).

DEFCON 2: Landed Joe Johnson and Joe Johnson’s Crazy Contract for some expirings, Houston’s 2013 first-rounder (no. 18: Shane Larkin, who was traded to Dallas), Brooklyn’s 2017 second-rounder, and Atlanta’s right to swap first-rounders in 2014 and 2015 (uh-oh).

DEFCON 1: KG, Pierce and Jason Terry for Wallace’s contract, some expirings, Atlanta’s first-round pick in 2014 (no. 17: James Young), unprotected first-rounders in 2016 (yes!) and 2018 (YES!), and Boston’s right to swap first-rounders in 2017 (YESSSSSS!!!!!!).

(The lesson, as always: Even Dwight Howard uses better protection than Billy King. And no, we don’t have to adjust our rankings yet.)

The commentators were talking about all the Nets trade as they got trampled by the Clips last night and some of them were just downright unbelievable and resulting in having the biggest payroll and an operating income of negative-$99mil (according to Forbes). That is just insane.

I was super pissed about the Gerald Wallace trade when Portland's pick turned into Damian Lillard, but in fairness, there is no way that Brooklyn would've drafted Lillard with that pick if they had kept it anyway. They already had Deron Williams by then. Most people are saying that pick would have been spent on Harrison Barnes, who, while still a huge upgrade over Crash, isn't the impact player that Lillard would turn out to be.

Still, though, I agree that Billy King has run this team into the ground and needs to go.

Brooklyn was so bad last night that words escape me. They were competitive until about 2 mins left in the 1st and then it was just downhill. Watching DeAndre Jordan elevate over Lopez for rebounds made Lopez look like Gheorge Muresan. The Clippers did very little to win, it was just easy shot after easy shot.

Nets forward Mirza Teletovic has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after being diagnosed with a bilateral pulmonary embolus (multiple blood clots in the lungs), according to the team. Teletovic left last night’s game against the Clippers with shortness of breath, and was taken to a Los Angeles hospital.

Damn, didn't even know players could earn millions just by being selected as an All-Star via CBA.
Quote:
LeBron James will start 11th consecutive NBA All-Star Game; Kyrie Irving misses out on millions

Had Irving made the cut, he stood to earn an extra $7-$10 million because of a rule in the current collective bargaining agreement commonly called the "Derrick Rose" provision. The CBA as it relates to player salaries is often complicated, but, the five-year, $90 million contract extension Irving signed with the Cavaliers last summer made him eligible for an even higher earning rate if he were to meet certain criteria.

Irving's two chances for the higher rate -- which would be based on next year's salary cap, which has not yet been set -- were to either earn fan votes into the All-Star Game this season or win the league's Most Valuable Player award, which is highly unlikely.

it's prob true that they wouldn't have drafted lillard (which itself is obviously a poor decision) but they also could have had drummond at 9. anyways, the overarching point is that they exhibited horrendously poor judgment and then just straight-up lied to their fanbase. portland got rid of a player they didn't want for a pick with only top-3 protection. billy king told their fans that this didn't matter, since they only liked 3 players in the draft! what does that even mean??? also this is the middle of the season, so does that mean they don't do any college scouting after that point?? and then they just went ahead and extended wallace to a big deal even though everyone thought his body was shot. that's one of the reasons that he had to gift up so many unprotected picks in the boston trade for kg and pierce, which its own disaster.

just seriously, seriously baffling.

really sad. so he tears his achilles and sinks two free throws; tears his rotator cuff and hits a perfect left-handed fadeaway jumper. last two years have been a sh*tshow.
but
clippers, baby, clippers.

Ugh, sucks about Kobe. You can think he's overrated and yet still sorely miss him. Think there's only a small chance of it happening, but I really really hope he doesn't retire this offseason.

Lol Rfx, knowing Byron Scott he's gonna just let nick young jack 20 shots a game and play Ronnie price 40 mpg
