I wouldn't let my kids play football. But I wouldn't be so myopic to believe that playing in the NBA doesn't create wear and tear on your body. If you are so frail and protective of your body, then don't play in the NBA, otherwise suck it up and do what you get paid to do.
There's a difference between regular "wear and tear on your body" and "potentially risking more significant injury by playing on an existing injury and putting the longevity of your playing career in jeopardy". Not recognizing that is truly what's myopic, especially since we're talking about a guy who is coming off of 2 major injuries and has missed the majority of the past 2 seasons because of them.

Bottom line is I believe a player should be allowed to lose a battle if it gives him a shot at winning the war, and fans shouldn't be trashing him for doing so. I'm done with this subject.

I like how he labels an entire generation as "whiny" and "entitled" based solely on one player. Never mind that there are a bunch of younger guys who've played through injury like Kawhi, Howard, and Curry (most would argue to the detriment of their team but w/ev, as long they can POWER THROUGH, right??).

Dude sounds like a pissed off baller who never made it tbh

Please you working desk job 9 to 5 everyday is not the same thing as throwing your body against 7 feet 300 pound dudes no padding whatsoever trying to get an orange ball in a basket 3, 4 nights a week not to mention doing that in practice for god knows how long

This isn't directed at idfnl but moreso rose haters in general (like that Andrew sharp article)

I don't see why derrick rose owes it to you to play through injury and risk further injury just because you "pay money" (and by pay money I really mean use your eyeballs and look at ads).

I'd rather a player play 60 games no injuries than play through injury, get reinjured and be out for god knows how long. Rose got initially injured because he kept playing despite nagging injuries because his team needed him and then he was out for two years. That shit is retarded and to ask for the same thing to happen again is incredibly stupid, short sighted, and short on memory

How many times do player have to blow their ACL, meniscus, and what have you before people stop deifying playing through injury as something heroic? Kobe played through a virus or something yesterday and that shit made it worse for the lakers not better. That shits not heroic. It's stupidity. There's only so many possessions a game and a sick player missing shots helps no one.

Rose was kind of tone deaf in his statement but he's not going through PR or anything just keeping it real and I actually prefer that.

Wheres the douche apology for fantasy?

He doesn't owe me shit. We just have different mindsets. I'd be happy to trade my well paid job for a monstrously overpaid job to bang with 300 pound guys and get so do something fun like play basketball. I'd take that over managing my departments any day.

Rose thinks his body is worth protecting for his old age. I would gladly sacrifice it for $20mil a year. I guess the mentality of millennials is that one in the hand is better than 2 in the hand if you sacrifice a bit. I'm just a guy with 1 1/2 in the bush, so I can't partake in the posh NBA lifestyle. I'm just one of the stiffs that recognizes how much better they have it than I do. If you want to defend the ultra wealthy athlete, be my guest, and there are thousands of millennial pussies right there waiting to jump in the ring and cry for Derrick Sit-Out. Poor baby has to play basketball to earn a living.

I'm sure you'd rather play 60 and earn 20mil... the guy that plays the whole season and is willing to sacrifice deserves it more than Rose. But maybe it explains why your fantasy team has so many injuries... you're happy to draft a team of guys that play 60 games (and then call me a douche).

the douche comment was tongue in cheek. I didn't think you'd take it so harshly. I'll apologize

This is pretty much how I feel

Rose should have (and now should proceed to) just shut the fuck up. I personally have given him the benefit of the doubt - it's not like you can fake a ligament tear - but he now basically said that he's a malingerer, or at best, too scared of further injury to be completely effective on the court.

I like the guy, so I'm willing to believe that he just said something stupid unthinkingly, but man, just shut the fuck up

Not really. I like the guy too. He did the worst thing you can do in modern society which is to tell the world how you really feel.

In this instance, he basically said he's fine coasting if it means saving his body for later in life. You can lie you way into claiming context and other such bullshit bur the reality is this is how he really feels. Jimmy Butler scored a career high 32 tonight with his sore thumb while captain Sit-Out was protecting his sore fingernail for age 50.

For Derrick, you're caught in a situation where you need to take less to play if your wish to be a body saver is to last. If you want to continue to earn 20mil like this, at least give some of it to Jimmy Butler, the kid who really has the mentality of a pro who will sacrifice for success.

In other news: Golden State is impressive.

I know the Cavs' season isn't going as well as they had hoped but did Kevin Love really have to join the jihad?

Rudy Gay has reportedly agreed to a three-year, $40 million contract extension with the Kings.

Coaches that I wouldn't mind seeing fired if their teams keep playing the way they're playing at the All-Star break:

Brian Shaw

Byron Scott

Scott Brooks

Byron Scott is doing an outstanding job. Number 1# pick is a lock.

Kobe is putting on a show though tonight - I wonder if maybe his current FG% is just due to rust from the lack of game action in 2 years?
