You just like him because he's one of the few who still shoots from the ancient area known as "mid-range"! teacha.gif

Many players still do that... , three point shot is more common now, but there are still players who are great from midrange. I watched some 80s games and tbh it wasn't like everyone was consistent hitting midrange shots. It was much like it is now.

although I agree that the Kobe deal buttfucks the Lakers for a long time, I'm willing to bet most of us in this thread are some form of employee to someone or some entity (maybe not Ed). this rarely happens anymore, but wouldn't it feel great if your employer, who you busted your ass/Achilles tendon and won countless rewards for, rewarded your hard work with a sunset contract like Kobe's? wouldn't it be nice (and in your humble opinion, well deserved)?

Kobe is worth the contract just off the tickets he sells. The Lakers may sucks big time these days but their away games are still almost always sold out when Kobe is playing and I think the Lakers is the only team that has an actual good amount of fanbase in every city, even Boston. You always see a plethora of Kobe jerseys in all of the Lakers away games.

Anyone who thinks no one would want him in the league these days is crazy, dude is a moneymaker on name alone.

Has something other than the contract happened in the last few years? I've read that he is a hardass on his teammates but isn't that what you want from your team leader? I mean Kevin Durant is supposedly a beautiful human being but he may very well go his entire career without ever again even getting the the WCF, much less a chip and you guys are complaining about a guy that brought you 5 chips? confused.gif

Fuck, Kobe.

The whole loyalty thing is bullshit. Kobe was willing to ditch the Lakers for the Bulls, or Clippers at one point. Both parties would just be better off in different situations. The Lakers know they aren't going to win with him, but he makes them so much money with merchandise, and ticket sales.

Kobe is underpaid for all the revenue he generates. As a California tax payer he totally gets screwed.

the best thing about lance stephenson is that he has a brother named LANTZ.

Kobe is a great league character and he deserves every right to sign that huge contract. He's a pretty interesting figure. WTS I don't think he's top 5 all-time, or really super close, and his contract is certainly harming LA's ability to sign free agents. LA is going to be like the 10th seed this year, and I don't really see Kobe winning another playoff round in his career...even if he gets a superstar like Love, or Westbrook, I don't think that's enough to be in the top 4 in the brutal West.

Blah this is so dumb. It's like that post about how LeBron hasn't accomplished anything in his career. Like reaching the Finals and losing is actually worse than not making the finals.

if he's not top 5 then lebon isn't top 10 lol8[1].gif

I would probably take Shaq, Hakeem, Kareem, Duncan, Bird, Magic, Jordan ahead of Kobe, maybe LeBron too
based on who i think was best skillwise on court and had long enough prime so the team has long window to win championships

this is argument often cited by Jordan homers, and it's idiotic

Bill Russell and his 13 rings don't get him in top 8?

I saw Adam Silver and a bunch of rookies yesterday at the Wynn in LV. They're here for summer league.

is you are basing it on skills, no way you put Shaq ahead of Kobe. Shaq's "skill" was being both an immovable beast and fast for his position. Once he lost his speed/strength, he was done. Kobe is still playing and producing at an elite level (well, until the injuries). If he comes back to "normal", he'll probably have another 2-4 years of 20ppg average. That's skill, cause he isn't beating anyone on speed or strength. Also, I love Bird but I think I take Kobe over him. Bird is a much better team player (and passer) than Kobe and he played on some of the greatest teams the league has ever seen. He didn't have the offense of Kobe though. That would be a toss up for me probably though.
