I agree with you about Ellis. Stephen Curry needs to be an all star too. It's just that the west has enough deserving all stars to make two teams. Steve ******* Nash isn't an all star this year...

I keep trying to think of something witty to say but basketball players had skills back then. Consistent jump shot before leaping abilities. Perhaps everyone wanted to be like MJ or the Stern & Co, put entertainment before winning. Team management maybe had longer tolerance to team and player development instead of championship or bust attitude with every draft sensation.

I can't comment though, Im not following the NBA so closely now.

Early to mid part of the 00s i remember it was pretty bad. Its fun to watch now.

BS, though, player shooting is better than it's ever been.

League advertising is much more player-based than team-based now, that's true.

I'm not sure if I can say its the skill level that has changed since the 90's but nowadays athleticism is taken over skill every time, that's why you see a lot of players getting huge contracts based on potential. What I consider the biggest difference from then to now is the competitiveness of players. A lot of players don't care as much as they used to thats why we get a weaker product.

How much of the better shooting is from the changes in rules? Didn't Michael Jordan say that he would be averaging 100 points if he were playing with today's rules during his prime? (or something like that)

To piggy back on what you said I think players are abusing the change in rules, particularly hand checking. How often do you see a guy barely get touched but overreact to the contact and the ref is suckered into blowing the whistle. I hate that so much. Chris Paul and Billups are notorious for this. Players need to make plays instead of trying to bate people into fouls.

I thought it was bad after MJ's first retirement, when the league hyped every no.3 draft pick, making him the heir to Jordan's throne. League office was so desperate they hyped Jerry Stackhouse the heir because 1. he was from UNC, 2. he was the number 3 pick and 3. following him in the draft was Rasheed Wallace, just like Jordan/Sam Perkins were drafted in 1985.
