I don't like either of them as people but I respect Lebron a lot more as a player. He's the best all-around basketball player in the world and possibly the greatest athlete in the world. Plus he's actually won the championship, something Dwight has yet to do.
Honestly, any of you would've left the Cavs if you had any desire to win anything. The way he did it is a different story..

Darth Stern is gonna sanction the Spurs. After a rest dictated by the NBA's brutal schedule and the subs ALMOST pulling the game out.

Eh, to be honest I'd be pretty damn mad if I paid to go to a Lakers game and DAntoni sits Dwight, Pau and Kobe. It was also a nationally televised game too so I can see where the sponsors and marketing people would be pissed too. I mean sit Duncan one night and then maybe Parker the other but to sit all 3 of their biggest stars? Pop will likely just call an "injury" or "players being sick" so he has an excuse to sit his players.

It was pretty impressive that they still almost won though.

I wonder what sanctions Stern will come up with? Not allow the Spurs in the playoffs this year?. I think he will most likely fine Pop, the GM, and the owner (none of whose names I happen to know).

Is there really a rule against sitting players?
It's not at all the same as going to a Lakers game and them sitting Dwight, Kobe and Pau. It was in Miami, on the road, after a tough road stretch. How many people were there to see Tim Duncan and Tony Parker? I'm sure most of them were just glad their team squeaked out a win against the backups.
Plus, regardless who was mad about it, it doesn't really matter. We're talking about one of the best coaches in the league. He should be able to give his players a day off. They're stars are old, he doesn't want to burn them out.
I think it's ridiculous, honestly. It was a great, competitive game. I don't know what else Stern is looking for. Oh...that's right..... money.

It doesn't matter if they are against Miami, is the arena is sold out, it is because of the Spurs and a lot would still go see Duncan, Parker and Ginobili, hell I would. If they were against Washington, it'll likely be halfway full in the arena to be honest. Plus this is a nationally televised game so how many people came in to see a very competitive game and changed channels when they found out the Spurs aren't playing their 4 best players? Sure the game was surprisingly close but who would have thought that w/o those guys playing? The Spurs is still one of the best teams in the league so yes people still want to see them play along with their stars.

And yes, it is exactly like watching the Lakers w/o the big 3 (or 4).

I do agree that Pop should be able to rest his guys, really got no problems with it but I do understand where Stern and upset fans are coming from.

ya Lefty I think everything you've said there is accurate... SA was on a long road trip and MIA was just chilling at home. I don't think it was the attendees in particular but the TV market that Stern was pissed about. It's the Thurs. nite TNT game, best in East v. best in West (almost) and I'm sure they had some ad revenue in there... I also read somewhere that MIA uses a "dynamic" ticket pricing system... meaning that people did pay more to see this "marquee" game, and altho' it was still close, it wasn't marquee w/o their top starters. I was SO rooting for SA to pull this off, but considering the circumstances it's just barely not embarrassing that MIA won by 5 at home. Anyway... interested to see what kind of BS sanctions Stern will come up with!

Bottom line: If it wasn't a nationally televised game, nobody would be talking about it. This has to do with one thing - revenue. I wouldn't be surprised if the network complained about it to Stern after feeling pressure from it's advertisers.
Sure, I'd be upset if I traveled from SA to MIA to see the Spurs (I wonder how many people that was) but I'd also realize, if I knew anything about basketball, that the Spurs have a great bench and Popovich could coach them to a win. I'd then also realize that I'm in fucking Miami...who cares who they play?
Don't make me link up some Will Smith...
