So now Dwight Howard wants a trade to the Nets. Because he was "blackmailed" into signing the extension. Someone in his camp says he doesn't understand the meaning of "blackmail".

Not that I don't agree, but I wonder how much help many of these have in terms of getting good advice to make good decisions. Here's a guy who is very good, but not great. In some ways he's never lived up the expectations that were put upon him when he was drafted #1 overall. The guy gets brainwashed over the course of several years into believing that he needs to prioritize "managing his brand" over winning.

Has anybody read that 10-year old piece in the Washington Post about Kwame Brown? It's pretty long, but it paints a very good picture of just how unprepared many of these guys are for real life, let alone life as a celebrity with huge career expectations.

At this point, what the hell are the Magic supposed to do? If you can only trade him to one team (NJN) and that team has limited assets to begin with why even bother working out a trade. NJN has no incentive to send you anybody that is halfway decent. From a salary cap perspective, they would probably be better off just benching Howard for the year and sell off as many other assets as possible for future draft picks. Then next year Howard comes off of the books and start over through the draft. In the meantime, Howard is forced to waste one of his prime years and it diminishes his value in the free-agent market the following year.

I would trade him to the Rockets. they have better assets to offer (eg Kyle Lowry) and apparently are willing to trade them even if Howard doesn't commit to signing an extension with them.

plus they get to fuck with him and the Nets out of spite, which is a must-do if you're one of those people who thinks players shouldn't be able to play where they want to.

Something tells me that Daryl Morley is too smart to trade for Howard unless he knows for sure that he can get him to sign an extension.

I do think that players should be able to play where they want to, given that they honor their contracts. If a player has signed with a team through a certain date, they should be committed to play for that team through a certain date. The reality is that the team owns that contract and they should get to do with it whatever it wants. If Howard didn't want to play for certain teams or he wanted to have a say in where he wanted to be traded, he should have had his agent negotiate for such stipulations in his contract. If he is unhappy with the teams performance or personnel/coaching decisions, he should have had his agent negotiate for certain opt-out clauses. The reality, however, is that he didn't, so he should just shut up and honor the contract that he signed.

howard isn't a free agent. free agents (especially unrestricted free agents - who howard could've been if he wasn't such a pansy last year) have the right to choose where they want to go.

hence the reason howard needs to be bitch slapped ... he's himself to be blamed for this mess because of signing that stupid "opt-in clause" for "loyalty".

I want to see Dwight in a Heat jersey. There's the rest of your rings, right there.

^provided like Lebron, he can develop a modicum of mental toughness and/or killer instinct.

lol Dwight...your 'one team' isn't quite on the same page as you lol8[1].gif

but i don't think the Nets are going anywhere with a Deron-JJ-G Wallace nucleus either. looks like no one's getting what they really wanted.

do the Mavs have the room to trade for Dwight and sign Deron as a FA? that might be the last superteam move that has any chance of getting done now.

also....Anthony Davis injured already

Getting van Gundy fired, signing an extension, then demanding a trade...pretty epic douchebaggery right there. What a dumbass.

Never going to understand how Joe Johnson is a max contract guy. 18/4/4 with a propensity to totally disappear in the playoffs gets players a max deal these days?

Joe Johnson is owed nearly $90,000,000.00 over the next three years..... crackup[1].gif

J.J. was never worth the money, even before his most recent injury. Hawks signed him because they lost out on every other star that offseason. I would hate to be a Hawks fan
