Now if he'll show up instead of retire then good news for the Clips.
Clippers win waiver bid for Chauncey Billups
The Clippers have won the waiver bidding for Chauncey Billups, who was waived by the New York Knicks under the NBA's one-time amnesty provision, two people familiar with the process who were not authorized to speak on the matter said.
Teams were notified Monday in a memo that the Clippers had the winning bid for Billups.
The NBA also sent teams a memo informing them that the league had warned Billups and his agent, Andy Miller, that if the veteran guard didn’t show up to the team that selected him, he would be in breach of his contract.
Billups had threatened not to show up if the winning bidder was a team he didn’t want to play for, and if it wasn’t close to winning a championship.
Billups, upset that the Knicks used the amnesty on him, was due to earn $14.2 million this season. Under the new collective bargaining agreement, the Knicks will pay $12.2 million of that, and the Clippers will pay about $2 million of Billups’ 2011-12 salary.
It was a good move by the Clippers after they broke off talks with the New Orleans Hornets about a trade for point guard Chris Paul.
The Clippers also needed a backup point guard because second-year guard Eric Bledsoe will be out until late January recovering from right knee surgery.
“Chauncey is a good dude. He’ll show up,” said one NBA executive who was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter. “He’s a class act. He was just frustrated with the Knicks. He’ll be all right.”
I can live with that.
Edit: Clips matched GSWs offer for Jordan so he's staying. Young dude will be getting paid, 4yrs for $43m+. I like Jordan but damn is he worth that much? He compliments Griffin but for that price, the Clips better be thinking of trading Kaman.Edited by RFX45 - 12/12/11 at 5:11pm
