NBA 2014-2015 Season Thread - Page 786

well, now I can come out of my self imposed ban from this threak frown.gif Still in mourning, but can't say I'm shocked. I felt that Indy presented too many problems for the Knicks (and Heat) with their size and George who is basically a 6'10" shooting guard but I never thought Chandler was going to disappear as he did. I think they would have been better off dressing up Herb Willams. And J. R. And Felton. And Woodson refusing to take the leash off Copeland. Interested in to see Heat/Indy, I think Indy will present some of the same problems but the Heat with Bosh can move Hibbert out of the paint and minimize his defensive impact.

Not sure what happened to JR, after the suspension, dude wasn't the same and the Knicks desperately needed him as a scorer.

Hibberts block on Melo though, so sweet & so clean!

Wow, I guess he is never going to change. Sad, they should trip him off of that 6th man award.

What was the post she was responding to?

The chick accused RiRi of being the reason he was playing so terribly the past few games. marchal.gif

More from Jackson's book:
Quote:
In comparing the leaderships skills of Jordan and Bryant, Jackson wrote: "One of the biggest differences between the two stars from my perspective was Michael's superior skills as a leader. Though at times he could be hard on his teammates, Michael was masterful at controlling the emotional climate of the team with the power of his presence. Kobe had a long way to go before he could make that claim. He talked a good game, but he'd yet to experience the cold truth of leadership in his bones, as Michael had."

Jackson wrote that the most "pronounced" difference between the two players was their shooting ability. Jordan shot nearly 50 percent for his career while Bryant has made about 45 percent for his career.

On defense, "No question, Michael was a tougher, more intimidating defender (than Bryant)," Jackson wrote. "He could break through virtually any screen and shut down almost any player with his intense, laser-focused style of defense."

Bryant responded to Jackson's assessments, via Twitter.

"The comparisons are apples to oranges," he wrote. "Wonder what the perception would be if (Jordan) played (with Shaquille O'Neal) instead. Different roles, different career paths."
Jackson wrote on Twitter that he was not putting down Bryant by believing that Jordan was better.

"Listen friends of (basketball)," he wrote. "Don't get hung up on words. I was most fortunate to have the chance to coach two of the greatest (guards) ever."

I don't think he will. Honestly I know you have not seen a ton of him play but he generally has been a real asset. He adds a ton on offense, being able to set up his own shot, play down low or mid-range and he can pass very, very well. He really helps take the pressure off the out side shooters and because he is always a threat to score he can pull a defender off of the perimeter and then pass out to the open man. Obviously he rebounds a ton too, and while they did rebound well without him in there for a short stretch, it's hard to say how much it effects the rest of the flow to have other guys being forced to fight for rebounds he would normally get.

His defense is not amazing but it is not as total shit as people claim.

I think he stays and they run Barnes at the 3. Maybe when his contract is up they move Barnes to the 4 but for now I think they're pretty set. They need more bench and for players to continue to develop. If Curry can stay on track and Barnes and Thomposn can find consistency I think they are pretty much golden.

Honestly, who do the Knicks really have that you want to form a core going forward? Melo and Chandler? A few role players like Shumpert?

Melo and Chandler is not a terrible duo to build on but I'm not sure you can really win with Melo as your alpha and I don't see him taking a number two role.
Maybe if you really built a team around Melo he could take you to the promised land but the Knicks have not come close to doing that and with the contracts they have, and the management, it does not seem like they really have the flexibility to retool in the off season.

In other words, enjoy losing in the playoff's for the foreseeable future, Knicks fans.

The tragedy for the Knicks is that they were never able to get anything out of the Amar'e, Melo, Chandler trio. On paper, that is a very formidable frontcourt. In practice it has been mostly non-existent (injuries) and for the few outings they had, ineffective. There is no reason to be sure the three won't play together next year and with Felton, Prigioni, Shumpert and Smith, they have a decent if not great backcourt. But for whatever reason, the trio has never shown it can be effective together. No doubt, that is a reflection of the players styles and personalities, but Woodson has also never shown that he is the kind of coach that knows how to lead his players. I have no idea what goes on in the locker room, but I don't think Knick fans have been given reason for any confidence.

This is as good as a block gets. Russell would be proud.

SA did the same thing against OKC in G1 last year. I don't suspect it will last, Memphis will make adjustments. Randolph was hopeless.

I do have a bit of faith in the Knicks winning the East if both Miami and Chicago ever have an off season.  Melo did show some maturity this year for the first time.  It could work... but the Knick's front office will likely find some way to screw any chance of the Knick's being competitive again.  I'll never know how the Knick's make such poor decisions year after year, disappointing season, after season.
