2013 Noche Latina

With one of the largest Hispanic fan bases in the NBA, the 2012-13 season marks the seventh year the Miami HEAT will celebrate the NBA’s Noche Latina initiative, an annual celebration honoring both players and fans alike who hail from Latin American countries. The HEAT will celebrate the Noche Latina initiative at AmericanAirlines Arena during three home games in March. During those games, the team will wear a special 2013 Noche Latina black uniform featuring “EL HEAT” on the front. Try being Asian. I had more people yell "Gangnam Style!" in Istanbul than I could shake a stick at. I shit you not, people came up to me and made me pose for pictures with them. I don't look a damn thing like Psy. I also have a 6'3 friend who is now Jeremy Lin forever.

My only problem with the whole Latina Nocha thing is that shouldn't the jerseys also have the Spanish word for Heat as well. Lakers is one thing as it is basically a nickname for a group of people that live near lakes in Minnesota and I can totally understand why you wouldn't try to translate something like the that, but Heat or Magic, that should be pretty easy.

This is pandering of the highest order. They actually call it Latina Nocha? When will David Stern go away.

I think he meant to say Noche Latina. Or maybe Latina Chocha, which is something entirely different.

No NBA team is going to give up their "brand" like that, even if it is readily translatable.

At the end of this season.

Why it's not that big of a deal. Especially for a team located in a city with a HUGE Latino population that may be looking to make inroads into that particular community. Who knows, maybe one day Los Heat will actually have a fan sitting in at least 65% of seats.

Dude if you like BBall what difference does this bullshit make? What are you going to do, watch the Mexican league?

El Heat, Los Lakers. I can't get this tomfoolery out of my head.

Its really not that big of a deal confused.gif I can't remember the last time I really looked at anyone's jersey and I sure don't care whether it says Heat or Los Heat. I mean, guys have tatoos on 90% of their bodies now, they wear headbands, sleeves, knee stuff, chest/rib protectors, wristbands, an overall ton of shit. The last thing I think anyone noticies is the "Los" in the uniform.

The point is that the league is trying to reach people that don't currently watch basketball. Whether or not this is a good strategy for doing so, I don't know.

Well, its seemed to work well with Europe and Asia, and given that hispanics will eventually be the majority here, it seems to make business sense.
