Brand averaged 11/7 last year and 15/8 the year before that. It's up to the coach to play his strong points to maximize his players role, Carlisle hasn't done that. Kaman is also an easy double double player but Carlisle has stunted or hasn't given him plays or the role to produce what he can. Mayo is having a breakout year, easily his best and he is a scorer but again Carlisle decision to let him shoot everywhere may have stunted everyone else on the team. Collison seems to struggle because he wasn't given the chance to excel to he is doing about the same he was doing for about 2 years now. Mavs still has Marion, Carter (still good for a bench role) and Beaubois (who is very talented and very good back up but for some reason Carlisle hates playing him). Crowder and Wright who was having career seasons in the beginning of the season where they actually won several games but then he decided to bench them.

I am not saying this team should be competing but they are being blown out of the water when they should be able to keep games closer. This current losing streak has been all by double digits and I know they are all from elite teams but they are just being destroyed out there.

He is a good coach, do not get me wrong, he has led his teams to good records and made the teams very competitive for practically all years but I just can't put him up there with Pop because really at the beginning of last year, everyone were saying the same about the dilapidated Spurs, 3 old injury ridden stars with a bunch of D-Leaguers or an unknown players but Pop led to to an incredible run and they are still staying very competitive this year w/ those 3 stars playing about half of the games this year together.

And have a great and health New Years everyone!

They are being destroyed. The team's effort has been really bad. Mayo has been given the role he has because Dirk was missing, now Dirk is back Mayo looks lost at sea. Dunno, it seems you might have drank the blame the coach kool aid. Anyway, you'll see he'll improve it. He even threatened to suspend players the other day for effort.

Carlisle's a NBA champ and has only missed the playoffs once in his coaching career. He's been successful with 3 different teams.

Fuck, i typed a few paragraphs of response but stupid ipad refreshed and erased it so forget it.

Simple as this, I dont see Carlisle as good as Pop. I know he is a winning coach, I already said by saying he immediatly gave teams good records and became contenders. I already said he is a good coach, better than Doc probably but I dont think he is better than Pop. I am sure Pop could capitalize and run/make plays to get Brand and Kaman going and get Mayo to play better with Dirk, which Carlisle has been unable to do so so far.

Discussion is also about coaches so I have no idea where you are getting the blame the coach koolaid crap. I explained everything i stated, which were logical but you choose to go the "blame the coach" route as if it is out of the realm of possibilities. I just dont see him being as good as Pop, that is all.

I think Pop probably has the edge but only because he has a longer career.

We disagree on the basis for the teams performance. I think its the players. Lets let their final record be the judge.

Ehhh if its the final record, I think Pop got the edge. Pop is only a head coach about 5 years longer and has consistently led the Spurs to good records and 4 chips. The Spurs is also a drafting genius, which I think Pop had a lot to do with as well. Carlisle has 1 chip and the next one doesn't look like it'll be coming anytime soon.

I really didn't want to mention rings and championships but if we are going to look at the end result, Pop is off to a big lead.

I dont mean that. I mean can RC have the team playing well enough by the end of the season or not, his record at the end of the season, not as a comparator.

Earlier in the season, iirc, you didn't even pick Dallas to make the playoffs while I did and that is before we even knew Dirk would miss as much games as he did. I am not sure what would change your opinion now that Carlisle could make this team go to the playoffs.

Rick Carlisle is pretty good. I especially liked him in The Mask and Bruce Almighty

Dont remember what I said exactly, cant comment

Anyway, is Boris Diaw the best player in the league that never produces any stats? The guy makes some fantastic passes but it always seems to be the pass before the pass, he's too small to really grab boards and never gets a play called. But somehow its so impressive to watch.
