I learned something about DH and also what his team thinks about him. With DH, ya so what, he's been dunked on 100 times but he got dunked on and looked strait at that bench for reaction. He thinks they think he's a clown. He was looking at that bench like a punk, aka "go ahead, say something". And one guy did, Sacre even had to restrain him but he still turned his head to pffff.

The other thing to notice is that nobody even did the bullshit 'that wasn't a foul' reaction. Not even the coach! The overriding reaction on that bench was "man, fuck Dwight". Anyway, I play poker tourneys so I hone in on peoples reactions to reactions, etc. The message in that clip was really clear: the bench thinks he's a bitch.

Lol I figured you were trolling but that's some classic espn style overanalysis right there. You know how whenever a team is struggling and Lebron bumps Spoelstra and suddenly the coach has no support from his star and one of them is gonna be gone soon? A lot of people think this way though - I blame espn and the other media for turning sports into men's version of the celebrity gossip industry

Paul George has got some swag.  That boy can ball.  That fact that he has 2 first names is just icing on the cake -- like Ricky Bobby

when griffin clears out with his left hand, how is that not an offensive foul

You also see guys on iso plays, they go right and dribble past the guy by hooking him with the left hand, Melo gets half his points that way, Lebron does it a lot but no one ever calls an offensive foul. If they are allowing that shit, they should being back hand checking.

melo is actually an offensive foul machine with his elbows and forearms always flailing away, but he's so fluid and sneaky with his moves he ends up getting away with it. the only real way to get him off his game is to fight fire with fire and put an equally physical/dirty defender on him. the celtics used to stick perkins on him, now its KG, when avery was healthy they would stick avery on him even if he was giving up 5" of height. you need a defender to get right up under his chin and if he swings his elbows/forearms then the defender puts a forearm/elbow right into his gut.

this year, as you've probably noticed, melo feels the defender then faces up and slashes, but instead of pulling up for a contested running jumper he's kicking it out to a shooter (who then will swing the ball over/and or back for a open three).

i guess the sad part is melo could be an equally effective defender using his sneaky physical game, paul pierce eventually did (where he'll just smother a kobe/lebron and give him quick cheap shots and force them to shoot - which often times results in a block) but he just picks and chooses when to do it.

the other play I hate (which Jason Kidd has become probably the best I've ever seen at) is the headfake 3 point shot, defender jumps and offensive player jumps into defender for a 3 shot foul. Its gotten to the point where the offensive player doesn't even feign taking a shot, he just jumps into the defender with the ball barely at chest level.

While I'm complaining.................. Bigs, stop with the demonstrative blocks, it looks good on TV but its a stupid move. Don't smack the ball to kingdom come, just keep it in play for your team or grab it. Also, if your 7 feet tall, and about another 3 feet with your arms outstretched, why are you jumping when guards give you a headfake around the basket

Absolutely. This has been getting worse every year.

I heard Bill Russell interviewed about this a few years ago and he said the same thing. How stupid can you be to swat it over the bench just to give the opponents the ball back.

Russell was a master at blocking shots. Best ever. He was so smart about it, he would soft hand the block in a way that held the ball in the air so when he came down he could gather and collect the ball.... look at :48 for a perfect example of this. And at 1:55, if that was Deandre Jordan that ball would still be circling the earth.

The comentator is right "Russell blocked shots without blocking them because guys wouldn't take shots"

back when I was young and could jump I always tried to block the ball so that it would get pinned on the backboard and then drop into my arms when I landed. the ultimate block (only pulled this off a couple of times) was if I could actually snatch the ball in midair like a rebound.

it was more fun to do this than pull off a sick offensive move

jeeze there are some rumors of a celtics-lakers trade:

gasol for jeff green, brandon bass, and courtney lee...

the trade can't be done until after Jan 15...due to some trade time table restrictions (for jeff green), but that wouldn't be too bad of a haul for gasol, especially if they add a youngin like fab melo. green/bass/lee are great for dAntoni.

as a celtics fan I'd be ecstatic because rondo would have even more assists with gasol in the block.
