To start, I have several HB coats (>>all of them Pre-SF purchases<<) Hugo Boss Black Label -(Spring/Fall) Waist-length, plain, zippered, leather jacket in black lambskin -(Spring/Fall) Hybrid car length, buttoned, lightweight coat (almost like a peacoat) -(Mild Canadian Winter only 0°C to -10°C) Black Topcoat -(Mild Canadian Winter only 0°C to -10°C) Black Peacoat -(Mild Canadian Winter only 0°C to -10°C) Brown shawl-collared car coat Hugo Boss Orange Label -(Spring/Fall) Pre-faded Denim jacket in black & grey These were all oppourtunity purchases (end of season) so I am very happy with all of them. They all perform very well and there are no construction, quality or performance issues that I am aware of. I clearly went overboard to have amassed too many over the years; consequently, each one has had very little wear but I am content with all of them. The questions.... Aside from obvious commentary of being over-priced at retail. Do you own any HB coats or outerwear? If so, are you happy with your HB coats? Do you have a favourite HB coat? Are there certain topcoats or other more casual models that are preferred? Any construction or material issues that a person should be aware of? Do you have any preference for certain materials for a cold weather coat? What would be good alternatives at the same price point for Topcoat or Peacoat? Please discuss.

I think that HB makes some nice fitted outerwear. I have a leather jacket that I like, which I bought on discount pre-SF. If you buy HB, it should be on significant discount. That said, I've seen wool peacoats in past seasons that were pretty nice and had a nice cut for RTW.

I don't personally own any, but I think the main issue people here have with HB, other than being way overpriced for the quality, tends to be that many of their suit jackets are fused. An issue that obviously doesn't come into play on the outwear your speaking of.

I've got one Black Label topcoat. Very fitted, 90/10 wool-cashmere blend. IMO they are worth >50% off retail. Never pay retail.

I own a black label winter coat and a wool-cashmere overcoat, probably the same one that entrero mentioned, and I've been pretty happy with both of them. Though they are priced a bit much at retail, as others have mentioned.

I have several HB items but only one topcoat. This topcoat is 100% cashmere and is the only item I have ever paid more than 50% off. I knowingly bought it at the worst possible time (during fall) as I couldn't find any nicely fitted RTW 100% cashmere coats cheaper. I certainly paid far too much for it but I take solice in that I never saw it on sale anywhere after even at the end of the season.
It is a very nice cashmere and I recieve many compliments when I wear it.

I have a kind of navy zippered jacket, navy, the kind that reaches below your buttocks. The kind to wear over your suit or sport coat. Had it for a couple of years, perfectly happy with the look and, so far, durability. Black label.
I also have an overcoat, cashmere&wool blend.
At least the first one bought at full retail, maybe about EUR 400, I am perfectly happy about it. I don't find HB more overpriced on retail than most other brands. For God's sake, a Kiton sport coat at USD 5000 may have more handwork, but still...
I never hesitate to by HB stuff at full retail if I like the look of it. Isn't that bad.

I have a Boss Black black colored zippered jacket that I am very happy with the purchase - 75% off retail but it has damn long sleeves, which I will get fixed.
I've worn the jacket several times past winter and it hasn't given me any problems. For the money I paid, it seem solid and it looks good.

I saw several winter coats at off fifth last weekend at about 30% off retail by Boss Black. I will look for some when the discount is even deeper. I'm guessing that will happen after the season.

i've never paid retail for any HB item. Usually I've paid 65-85% off retail for the Boss pieces I own. I'm generally happy with all the HB sportswear purchases.

I was fortunate to purchase a new 100% cashmere black overcoat on the B&S forum for a mere fraction of retail. It is Colombo cashmere and is nice and soft. It appears to be reasonably well made and finished. I was hesitant to buy HB as i have had some ordinary experiences with the couple of products i had owned. It is made to a much higher level than HB products i had. I already have a dressier 50% cash/50% wool italian o/coat in black, this one is more a raglan style so a bit more casual but the 100% cash is much softer and lighter in weight.

Since I paid less than 10% of retail it was a punt that definitely paid off as Melbourne has had their coldest winter for years.

So from reading this and my experience it appears they manufacture a reasonable quality o/coat, preferably bought heavily discounted, not convinced with some of their other products though.

Hugo Boss makes very nice clothing, and for some reason their fit is nearly perfect. Suits and dress shoes I'd be careful with. Everything else is a solid green light for me
