I did my MSc at Birkbeck, overall a fairly good institute to study at. It's about two minutes' walk from the British Museum which may be a consideration for Egyptology.

Having said that, from the list you've given I'd probably choose Edinburgh as being manageably small but still cosmopolitan. Also, so many o/s students end up in London that it would be more interesting to do somewhere different imho.

what will she do with the degree? my wife is an art historian, and where you study for your masters can significanlty effect your career later, that is probrably something that she wants to look into.

aside from that the museums and libraries in london will help her with her studies.

I do not know much about Exeter, so will leave that out of my post.

Edinburgh is a beautiful city, closeness to nature if she likes riding, shooting, etc - and the university is very good. Good crowd too. Downsides: Small place.

London: Only downside for a student is most likely prices. Upside: everything else. As for arts history you have the Courtauld which is amazing, and you have as others pointed out SOAS for the more anthropological side of things.

No groundbreaking advice but nigh impossible to give a direct suggestion unless one knows what sort of personality and what she is looking for.

I think that only makes London more attractive to an overseas student.

Her goal is to teach high school history. She is looking at Birkbeck in London. (don't know if I've already answered that) And she is now interested in Trinity College in Dublin. Any thoughts in that?

1. for high school history both are better than fine.

2. trinity has a great reputation

3. both cities are a lot of fun, Dublin is probrably a little cheaper
