Manhattan is my favourite, I also enjoyed Radio days, Stardust memories, Broadway Danny Rose and Annie Hall and but none of them really reach Manhattan level

Man, I HAVE seen more Woody Allen than I thought at first.

Mighty Aphrodite was good, Match Point was great. Deconstructing Harry was quite good and had some great moments, but I think I'd probably pick Hollywood Ending first for sheer outlandish folly.

oops. Forgot Scoop. Not bad.

Generally agree with your assessment. I think Husbands and Wives is surprisingly effective; Manhattan Murder Mystery and Mighty Aphrodite are, IMO, surprisingly lame.

Yeah, Husbands and Wives is pretty good.

Mighty Aphrodite and Manhattan Murder Mystery are certainly lame in comparison to his earlier stuff, but IMHO the later stuff is all pretty poor, and the OP was asking specifically for recommendations from the post-1990 era.

These are the best of a bad bunch, really.

I saw all three of these. Wasn't bowled over by any of them.

Yes, I am asking for stuff post mid 1990s, that's when I basically stopped watching.

Another vote for Match Point. Not as good as the '70s-'80s films, but probably the best since then.

I feel very old if Manton was only 8.

Definitely, but since he doesn't appear in the later ones as much, he makes everyone else play a version of himself.

I’ve seen each and every one of his released films with the exception of ‘Men of Crisis: The Harvey Wallinger Story’ short film which, to my understanding, can only be found in a museum somewhere. My entire order changes, but some constant favourites are: ‘Broadway Danny Rose’, ‘‘Shadows and Fog’, ‘Mighty Aphrodite’, ‘Take the Money and Run’, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Sex Comedy’, ‘September’. I don’t like his recent Scarlett Johansson phase.

Mighty Aphrodite was, I thought, boring and unfunny. I much preferred Bullets over Broadway. I especially enjoyed the horridness of the dialogue of the play.

Curse of the Jade Scorpion was charming and cute, though certainly not world-shaking.

In the end, I think Allen's movies are too "talky" for him ever to be a great director. They're too much like plays on celluloid, and Allen has trouble playing to the strengths of this primarily visual medium. What a critic said about his idol Bergman applies even more to him; his movies are "emotions on film" rather than "filmic emotion".

I don't know how to post gifs, but due to the images pervasiveness I will simply state what it is an image of and your imagination will do the rest: Orson Welles clapping.

Honestly, those are some really concise and smart criticisms. That said, if I'm remembering right, he may have went of a tangent relatively recently with Match Point and took a break from theatricality. Also, for the record I love Woody Allen films.
