Help me buy my first tie...

So I just received my first blazer, its pretty casual (fleece) and I'm happy with it..
But I'd like to get a tie to go a bit more formal, but I have no idea were to begin.

I don't wanna spend a ton, cause I probably wont wear it a lot, but is a silk tie from Banana Republic as good as any ? I don't want a shiny tie..

If anyone has some suggestions where to start I'd appreciate it, maybe I'm over thinking it..

Thanks!

if you're really looking for help, post a picture of the blazer and whatever pants you plan to wear (jeans? chinos?) so people can help with the tie color/pattern.

hard to beat a purple pindot tie....goes with everything and looks incredible. IIRC banana republic had one last time i was in there for around 50 bucks. hard to beat.

Agreed, if you're looking for a specific recommendation we'll need pics to match the tie with.

Was the blazer W+H recycled fleece? If so get a wool tie (not knit) preferably by engineered garments or band of outsiders.

In addition to these, Black Fleece (Brooks Brothers) and Rag & Bone make nice wool ties.

Have lots of BBBF, including a couple wools, they wouldn't work that great with W+H. Too dressy, even if sort of TB-schoolboy-dressy.

Thanks guys, I did like the look of the W+H ties but don't know where I could purchase one in the next couple days... $100 also seemed like a lot for a tie, but like i said I don't have any experience then them so that may be normal.. Here's some pictures of the blazer, I'd normally wear it with a white shirt i think, but its at the tailor's right now... Like i said this is my first blazer too, does the fit look alright ?

Sleeves look a bit short, shoulder is kinda... weird, DO NOT WEAR WHITE SOCKS especially with those shoes, yes get an EG tie or a BoO cashmere or something. I have one that would be perfect but I'm keeping it.

1. Don't button your bottom button. Jackets are not made for that. 2. You can wear that (because it looks gray on my screen) with any color of shirt, and any design -- don't worry. 3. Ties: How much are you looking to spend?

Spending over 100 would feel excessive but I would rather buy the right one the first time around. Ar-six, u know anywere in van with EG ties?

i think this EG tie would be pretty safe for your first:

I agree the sleeves are too short.

Okay, why not buy four or five ties for under $20.00... go to your local goodwill store, pick out a few, and you'll find great brands there too. Save yourself a bunch and get them as your first ties....

and then when you get rich, you can buy your fancy brand new ties...

Or just get that EG on yoox, that looks good.

I have that EG tie and I'm wearing it at this very moment
