Some lighter jeans with a dark chambray is fine, but a dark chambray with crispy new raw denim is going to look awkward

I won't pull rank here but then again I will. Most of the members who subscribe to this part of the forum are, I would presume 17 > 30, I'm 56. Their exposure to chambray has been limited to what is currently and fashionably being presented to them by every Tom, Dick and Harry. This type of chambray, which is coarsely woven best represents itself as a fabric best suited for shirts, jackets, trousers that present well in the casual workwear esthetic.
Now, I'll throw the log into the fire. I own about 20 chambray shirts. I will admit, most are from my buddy Daiki. However, I own quite a few chambray shirts that I consider part of my business casual shirts. The type of chambray fabric that these shirts are made of are tightly woven and have a finer finish. I would go as far as to say they have a luxurious appeal to them. I wear these shirts with my Tweeds, Twills, Donegals etc. They look great with Bow Ties.
So, someone needs to do their homework.

Stop by and see me sometime and I'll show you the difference. Better yet, visit a fine menswear store and ask them to see their custom shirt fabrics because someday you will be a fine man.

And, to answer the original question by the OP. Yes, you can mix but be sure to contrast these fabrics both in color and texture and you should be fine.

thanks for your input.

What are some good stores/brands to find chambray shirts?

I like a light, faded chambray with white buttons and contrasting stitching with dark jeans. Conversely, I like a darker chambray with faded jeans. If the color is too close in value I end up changing my shirt.

I think the very best chambray shirts you can buy are 70's 100% cotton Big Mac from Penny's. They come up on Ebay all the time. Many are deadstock and the neck size is true to size and the sleeve length is good (i.e. a 16 neck is 34-35, try finding that on a 50's chambray shirt)

I think westinghouse is a bot.

I happen to love chambray, and I really love the chambray fabrics drink was referring to. If only I could find them more often.

I wear mine with jeans.
But I don't like the colors to match too closely.
If the shirt is a lighter blue,
I like the jeans to be a darker blue.

I've never understood why people have some a disdain for a uniform look. People habitually do it with black without argument but the moment any other shade or color is involved people get up in arms. Sure, different shades of the same color contribution to a more visually-interesting fit but it's a rule of thumb than the rule itself. And as a gentle reminder to the OP and novices in general, chambray is a fabric, not a color.

Dont do Gap. They run really big and fade after one wash. I made the mistake of purchasing one this summer. Uniqlo has an ok one and if your willing to spend a little bit more money, you should look into J.Crew's chambray
