Brown Rice - Page 2

I often make rice and beef burritos.

Would that be too much setup time?

Soup broth, cooked mushrooms, cooked zuchini, veggies, lentils, chicken, olive oil, lemon, whatever really.. burritos are perfect. Boil water, turn to medium heat put rice in cook for 30 minutes drain water then put back in pot and cover, steam for 10-15, done. Heres a recipe from: theessentialman.tumblr.com Omurice 3 Eggs 1/2 Small onion, chopped 3 cloves of garlic, minced 1/2 lb of chicken (I like the fattier thigh meat) 2 Scallions, sliced on the bias 1 Small bunch of cilantro, roughly torn 1 1/2 cups cooked rice Salt & Pepper 2/3 Tbs White wine (Optional) Peanut oil Ketchup Cook rice according to package directions. Sauté onions, garlic and chicken on med/high in peanut oil until onions are translucent in a frying pan. Add rice and stir in 2 1/2 TBS of ketchup, white wine, scallions, salt and pepper to taste. Continue to sauté until chicken is cook through, fold in cilantro. Set aside in the pan. In a bowl, break three eggs and whip with a little salt and pepper. Pour into another hot oiled frying pan, moving the frying pan back and forth to coat evenly. When the omelette is about half solidified, top with the rice and take off the heat. Tilt the pan slightly and fold over half the omelette over the rice. Plate (the rice’s heat will continue to cook the egg) and top with a nice dollop of ketchup.

Omurice

3 Eggs
1/2 Small onion, chopped
3 cloves of garlic, minced
1/2 lb of chicken (I like the fattier thigh meat)
2 Scallions, sliced on the bias
1 Small bunch of cilantro, roughly torn
1 1/2 cups cooked rice
Salt & Pepper
2/3 Tbs White wine (Optional)
Peanut oil
Ketchup

Cook rice according to package directions.
Plate (the rice's heat will continue to cook the egg) and top with a nice dollop of ketchup.

That is kind of an Omurice, but (beyond the obvious replacement of white rice with brown rice there) the chicken rice should be more flavored, and cilantro isn't normally used. A classical Japanese omurice will have green peas, sliced mushrooms, maybe some diced green pepper, and diced onion. Those get sauteed plus the cubed chicken, then you add the rice, and then a good amount of ketchup and a crushed instant consomme cube, it should be red and look similar to Spanish rice.
Also, when cooking that egg, you need some wood chopsticks to keep the egg moving and not overcooked in spots, and it's usually easier for newbies to lay saran wrap in a small bowl, slide the cooked egg over the saran wrap, add chicken rice, and then scrunch together the Omurice shape and then plate that way.

Do your health and body a favor and skip the rice, brown or white.

^^^I stopped eating it regularly a few years back, even though rice is one of my favorite foods. I miss having rice, but I don't miss the pounds it added.
