I have the iPhone 4 and would like nothing more to find a pair of speakers i can take with me on my upcoming travel that sound great, are durable, and do not take too much room in my luggage. Listening to tunes in my hotel room sets the day/night right for me. Any recommendations?

Depends on how small you want to go. I was pleasantly surprised with these: http://www.amazon.com/iHome-iHM77-Re...4451421&sr=8-5 super portable...you can't throw a party with them in a hotel (although I have before) but for the size they are decent. they charge via USB port too so you don't have another charger....both speakers have magnets on the bottom and connect together.

Thanks. I like them, especially the fact that they are collapsable and charge via USB. How do they sound at top volume; any cracking? How does the bass sound? I know for $30 i get what i pay for, but just curious.

They're an upgrade from computer speakers. You're going to get some crackling and very little bass response from them at this size. really haven't found anything that has outperformed at this size and ease of use (plus into headphone jack of ipod/computer/etc)

This is what I use while traveling: http://www.amazon.com/Altec-Lansing-...4489978&sr=1-7

I've used this for the last 4 years, but its not as compact as the previous Ihome product posted. It's Semi-water resistant, if you zip your iphone in it. I've taking it to the beach and camping and what not. Runs on AA's.

sweet. it looks like it comes down to: xmini, altec lansing or ihome.

The Altec Lansing looks sweet. the dealbreaker is it uses batteries and not rechargable via USB.

It definitely is a downside and I would pack extra batteries if you travel with it.

I moved to rechargable batteries for it and couldn't be happier.

I might just get the AL since it's cheper and try it before i leave. If it's cool, I'll keep it or just return it for the iHome's. I do remember watching a video recently of a device that when placed on any object magnifies the audio using that object. It was wild, but can't find the link or remembe the name. e.g., if it was placed on a glass table, the entire tabe becomes a speaker.

I knew of a speaker that you attached to a cardboard box that worked on a similar principle, but I can't recall a speaker that will use anything to amplify the sound.
