Light Therapy for SAD Seasonal Winter Depression

Anyone ever used the Light Therapy or lamps for Season depression or tireness?

I have mild depression and usually bad weather only increases it.
I don't really have serious symptoms, but mostly I don't feel like doing anything or waking up on time.

And I feel tired or lazy often.

Anyone used it with good results?

Yes. I tend to get grumpy and unmotivated if there's too little natural light. I've found that the SAD lamp helps quite a bit. It doesn't make me feel as good as natural light does, but it certainly does improve my mood.

Never tried it myself but my co-worker swears by it. I live in Oregon, so we get more than our fair share of gloomy days...

Oregon weather is pretty close to Vancouver!

I was thinking of taking a trip with my mom by train to Oregon, as an aside, any touristy things to do?

i live in seattle. love/hate this city. i leave a sad light on shining against a wall to give the entire room light.

Lots of stuff to do here - depends on what you like. Lots of hiking around Portland but you probably have plenty of that in BC. Check out the wineries if that floats your boat. I like to head out towards Central Oregon myself - the John Day fossil beds area in particular and the high desert in general is great. The Oregon coast is wonderful as well - lots of little towns you can spend time in. Just rent a house through vrbo.com - that's what we usually do. Other than that, there's the usual stuff - Mt. St. Helens, Crater Lake NP, exploring the city (nice Japanese garden), etc. Of course you know this, but you better hurry - September is probably the best month of the year here in Oregon - relatively cool but still sunny and dry. It will start raining in mid-October.

Back to light therapy.

What do you folks think of these?

Apollo Golite P1 or P2 (with built in battery)

I've heard good things and you can also set it to alarm and turn on when you wake up.

Try Clinical Sleep Solutions on Broadway. They have lots of light therapy stuff.

Yeah I use light therapy for SAD. I LIGHT my herb and I am no longer SAD.

Does that thing automatically turn on and gradually get brighter in the morning? How does it compare to this: http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/d...&ctn=HF3470/01 I don't get sad or depressed or anything, I just have a hard time getting out of bed in the morning (all year round). Thanks!

Yeah I use a Philips Go Lite Blu. I find it does help, and I use it at my desk while studying. Last Winter was very very tough here and I got SAD quite severely, so I bought it in Spring.

i've had it for a week so i can't really tell but placebo effect is it's working.

i feel more upbeat and have a better day to day outlook.

i'll update in a couple months because that will be more fair.
