Would this fabric be described as glen plaid?

If not, what is it?

Some modern interpretation of plaid, but it's not a glen plaid. It has no name that I know of.

If I were posting it on eBay, I would call it glen plaid.

If I were describing it to somebody, I would call it a "sort of glen plaid".

It has all the traits of glen plaid except for the fact the lines are much finer.

I think it might have been made in response for people who don't like the bold 'used car salesman' look of stronger plaid, but still want interest in the weave. I'm not sure, it's almost too diffuse though, kinda might look like a dirty gray to some.

To all the people saying it's not glen plaid, your responses would be more informative to everyone if you could articulate why not.... (Svenn came pretty close but I don't know that I understand -- if the "lines were thicker" [what does that actually mean, isn't it just a question of scale?] it would be glen plaid?) Personally I was under the impression that "plaid" in general is just a misnomer for "check" and is actually supposed to refer to a type of garment rather than a pattern in weave

As I understand it as a neophyte, Glen plaid patterns are historical and refer to specific estates.

EDIT: oups, was thinking of tweeds.

Hard to do. You just know it when you see it.

Going by encre soluble's example, glen plaid is a repeating pattern consisting of four types of weaves:

A C A C
B D B D
A C A C
B D B D

Does that sound right?

No, there are only three patterns, but one is done in two different directions.

Gotcha. Kind of hard to type that out on a standard keyboard.

So something like this:

ACAC
BABA
ACAC
BABA

Thank you all for helping me understand the mystery that is glen plaid!

EDIT: not the prettiest way of typing it out, but...

Since the Z is like a rotated N, it's shown easier like this:

NANA
BZBZ
NANA
BZBZ

But now I feel like eating some bananaz
