Interesting. It looks like 手切れ金 (てぎれきん) might be more appropriate.

It is common enough to appear regularly in television dramas and in the tabloids when the rich and famous separate. There also have been some recent instances in which a "friend" of a spurned woman has been arrested on charges of blackmail after demanding that the ex-boyfriend pay up.

I don't know what the legal elements are to make a legal case for it.
