quick question for you Japanese speakers, what's the word for "break up money" ? where the guy gives the girl money upon break up (gf and bf, not divorce or anything). Don't ask me why i want to know

nooo, there actually is a term for money rich guys give to their girlfriends if she's been dependent on him for a while... even if not married. the japanese courts enforced it once and it was a big deal.

I am not 100% certain but I believe it is 手切れ金 (てぎれきん) tegirekin consolation money
