Handmade clothes vs. factory-made - Page 2

What they essentially say is that handmade= sewn together by hand by one of our master tailors. Obviously not true for all but the most boutique of boutique brands out there. I can believe that for a Savile Row suit. Not for a pair of chinos.

Anyway I have an Oxxford suit given to me by my father, but it's way too for me to even get fitted so it's just a place holder now(at least until I bulk up). It has neat bells and whistles but I don't think I'd be much more impressed even if it fit perfectly. And then I have some factory-made Johnston and Murphy Aldrich captoes. I have to say that pair of shoes has more soul than any other garment(s) I've ever seen in person. Beautiful leather unlike most I've seen for the price range among other sentimental details, how it's aged and all. The point is that you can't detract from a piece just because it flew off an assembly line, for all you know the patternmakers and cutters and the rest of the lot take their craft seriously and put good effort into what they make. It really just comes down to your personal standards and what your typical wear calls for. Of course.

I think it depends on the process, products, etc.

Most of the jeans companies cut the fabrics by computerized machines (factory made ish) but the final stitching up needs to be done by the skilled person (hand made ish).

Difficult to define, really...
