To me, flags indicating languages are passé. Which flags would you use for French, or English, or Spanish?

A tricky predicament indeed. For French you would of course choose France and to a lesser degree of certainty, Spain for Spanish. For English I would choose the British flag unless the great majority of your audience is American.

I've seen English represented as either UK or US flag; however, I find it strange when it is a UK flag and American English is used (color, not colour, etc).

Also, I don't like sites with an entry or intro page. When I go to a site, I want to be at the main content page immediately. I don't like having to click through things that ultimately add zero value.

Most serious website do not use flags, they use the name of the language in that language:


Deutsch\t\tEnglish\t\tEspañol\t\tFrançais

Italiano\t\tNederlands\t\t中文

Et cætera.

I have tried the edit action and that is not working either.
