Are trickers exclusively a mod/ultra-UK country look thing?

I have a pair of STP not stows and can't really figure out how to incorporate them into my wardrobe.

With jeans and streetwear they look too "Ben Sherman"-y, and with cords and stuff too costume-y like I'm on the set of Masterpiece Mystery.
Where are you based? I find that people often can't get over the cultural connotations associated with a brand or style that are specific to a region or a country. For example, a lot of my British friends won't wear chukkas, and several have told me that it's because desert boots are associated with being a schoolboy. In the US, you are often either for preppy or against preppy. And so on. Ben Sherman, in the US, means very little, mainly because terrace culture is strictly a UK thing.

Come on kids, enough with the dash-of-jaunty-flair colored soles already.

I'm not doubting the experience of your British mates, but the chukka-schoolboy link is a completely new one to me! Might be a class thing, I suppose...

Did you forget to take your medicine today, grampa Tarmac? Or does your blood really curdle to watch people spend their money on "colorful" otherwise traditional shoes that suit their personal tastes?

I like the idea of the coloured rubber soles with casual shoes, had enough of the boring black, black, black over the last fifty years of my life always the same. Nice to see something different!

When I bought my coffee eatons from re trickers on ebay, I spoke to the guy there (I think he might also be call Richard) and he told me to always polish them using black wax polish. He said that any brown polish would turn them a baby poo colour. At first I was a bit dubious, but he was right. I use sapphire black wax on mine and they look great.
