Too big for you!
They're UK9.5 on the 4497 last.
They were sold as seconds but they're not marked with that circle-S stamp and I can't find anything horribly wrong. One of the facing's alignment is a bit off and one of the caps isn't ruler straight but it's no worse than I've seen on firsts.

LOL - you read my mind, but alas, they are too big for me…

That said, I am not feeling too sorry for myself today (and Docalden will probably applaud this), but I picked up my first pair of shell boots at the Alden Shop today in San Francisco.  I love them, even though I was hoping to find some cotto Tricker's...

That said, back to Tricker's: I have some credit at Shoe Healer and need to order something. I was thinking of a commando sole Malton as I don't have any c-shade boots, and have had my eyes on them for a while. Anyone have any experience at all moving from fitting 5 to fitting 6 on the 4497 last? I comfortably wear an 8.5UK fitting 5 on a 4497, can get away with a 9UK with a thin insole and thicker sock, and usually get some uncomfortable little toe rub (and blisters!), when I have tried wearing a UK8.

Richard was suggesting I size down 1/2 size to an 8UK, but I am a little nervous about the little toe rub. Others have said the volume difference between 5 and 6 is very significant and that I might have too much volume just moving laterally from 5 to 6 in the 8.5UK.

My second choice would probably be a black grasmere, but then I run into the same sizing issue.

Would love to hear any direct experiences with this from anyone.

Thanks in advance.

Love these. So much nicer looking than Aldens IMO.

Hello gentleman, from searching through your thread I couldn't see that the post quoted below was ever answered directly. It's relevance to me; some years ago I owned a pair of Malton in a 5 width fitting and am currently looking at the Woodstock derby for more formal wear. While my 'standard' size was a good fit in length and width I was surprised at how shallow the actual toe box felt. Very close to the top of my toes, rather uncomfortably so and certainly not how I recall my Malton having felt.

As we all know there are marginal differences in the same given size in lasting, but unless my toes are now fatter (?) the depth gave me some concern. The calf leather on the Woodstock is a lovely thick grain and I'm comfortable in believing it will give sufficiently across ball / forefoot bend as it gets more supple - but height? Less convinced.

For what it's worth, I'm quite aware of the 4497 v 4444 last differences, and while I like the more budapest like height of the 4444 don't perhaps need the fuller depth across vamp and instep.

Any thoughts?

Incidentally - I have previously worn the Kent from the City Collection on the 5067 last - wonderfully fitting, absolutely true to size, hugs the waist and supports the heel with (from memory) what felt a marginally deeper toe box than the 4497. For my square toe shape the tapered cap was however just a little too constrictive on the first metatarsal / big toe.

cheers all.

zippyh, nice acquisition! there is something so simple and therefore elegant about a perforated cap toe. here's hoping you get tons of enjoyment and comfort from them.

I think Trickers has got lots of character and perhaps arguably more than Indys. However, shell indys are a great workhorse boot and much can be done with them, so congrats on a great choice!

I thought somebody from here would pick those up. I'd asked David about availability in other sizes and was advised that they were a one off. I wonder who commissioned the original pair with this pair graded as factory seconds.

hi all good folks.

can anyone here who actually has tried on, or owned Trickers in 2298 Last please share some advice on their sizing.

im considering the Trickers Robert shoe

i tend to take a UK7 fitting 5 in boots.
but never really happy with Trickers 4444 or 4497 lasts for shoes.

thank you very much.
