Actually, Tricker's might be the only maker that currently offers a longwing boot. Afaik, they're all either shop MTOs or individual MTOs. Besides, what's wrong with stock boots or goods in general?

I don't know what it takes for footwear to qualify as special for you. I don't need nor care for my shoes/boots to be special. If I think they're nice, then that's good enough. In this particular case, I like all the design elements individually: the longwing boot design, upper leather, brass eyelets, natural edge, etc. I also happen to think they're aesthetically pleasing and coherent together.

More often than not, the urge/desire for something special just leads to Frankenshoes (Prada espadrille wingtip creepers anyone?). Oh, those are definitely special, they're also fugly as hell. Same can be said of the current trend of putting Vibram Christy soles on everything...

The Vibram Christy soles look out of place on a lot of shoes - the Present London brogues look really unbalanced to me. And for that "chunky" look, I much prefer the double crepe wedge sole.

There is nothing wrong with stock boots, at all. But you pay a premium for MTO, and for the extra money, I'd like something that makes me say "wow". For example, I based my individual MTO on these at Frans Boone:

The balance, the textures and colors, with that kick of the natural welt and the blue sole? That's what makes those boots special.

The color balance is a little off, and the real color is more grey, and less tan, but the details and stitching show a lot better than in my phone pics.

Love that color. I have a pair in a similar color from Alfred Sargents (Lombards). Otherwise, I might pick those up as well. Still might. I really like the greycast in that leather.

LA Guy, you are helping to make the case for the gumlite sole. I took a good long look as those wheat Stows from Frans Boone, but in the end decided to pass. But now I wonder if I made a mistake. Anyhow, I like your chukkas. Thanks for sharing.
