Tailor in Shanghai - WW Chan or Daves?

hi, i am going to settle in Shanghai to have a couple of suit made here. seems that wwchan and dave's are both quite well-known. which is better? can anyone give me some advice on the prices they charge, fabric ranges, workmenship, etc.?

Chan is very popular and very very good-in HK. I thought I remembered reading here that their suits in Shanghai were just slightly below their sister shop in HK.

Never heard of Dave's.

There is another shop in Shanghai that is opened by Patrick Chu's predecessor, Raymond Kiang.

Dave's comes from Taiwan. They are famous here, top notch.

I dont know. Maybe as expensive as Chan's.
They proudly claim they never use fusibles--very very few tailors (less than 5) in this city dare do that.

Chan for sure. I've had things made by Dave and they didn't turn out that well. Try and turn up earlier in the day and say hello to Peter Chan as well, he's a super nice guy.

just called the chans, a staff told me they have two locations in shanghai.
has anyone been to both locations? I wonder if there's any difference...

also tried to call Dave's Custom Tailoring in the Ritz-Carlton, the hotel said they moved.
does anyone know where they are now?

There was a lot of drama with Dave's a few years back where there was a spin-off/pirate operation also called Dave's that poached some staff after some leasing dispute. I'm not sure of the details, but I've heard several people remark it was messy. I've used the Ritz Carlton one before (about 8 years ago) and I've used their other location which was a little townhouse somewhere in the French conc. Either way, I'm not going back.

I have not been to the new Chan location at the Ritz Carlton, it apparently was just launched. I'd imagine Peter is at the new one.

They moved to a new shop directly behind the portman/plaza 66. There are quite a few suit and shoe shops around on the street. I've passed them by bike, but have not really checked them out.

They are separate from the "Dave's Tailor" you see in the ads.

just booked an appointment with peter chan at their new ritz shop next week

Couldn't say about Shanghai, but in Dave's Beijing shop, prices start at about CNY 5000 for suits and 800 for shirts. I have a couple of shirts made there, which I must say are very nice.

Kiang's shop is Eleganza Uomo:

According to Patrick Chu of Chan, Kiang operates at a lower price point and uses fusing.

One chap in forumland got a suit or two from him and seemed quite satisfied, as I recall.
