Holy Geronimo, you are wrong.

I just had an infestation and an exterminator is always necessary because bed bugs can hide anywhere in the home. They get in the walls, in clothes, and in furniture, and they will continue finding their way to the bed if the home is not treated.

Bed bugs lay eggs every 4 days; a mattress cover will only slow the rate of the bed bug population growth, but it will definitely not put an end to the problem.

Umm...you must never have had a real infestation or known someone who has.

Bedbugs actually do not typically live in the mattress. They may hide in the seams but they are much more likely to be living in your walls/cracks in the baseboard or furniture/etc. Especially in apartment buildings where one unit getting an infestation can lead to the entire building needing extermination.

Well I saw a special on the Today show and Matt Lauer said mattress covers were all that was needed to kill them off. Why would Matt Lauer lie to me?

Are some of you confusing dust mites with bedbugs? Mattress covers and box spring covers are recommended for controlling dust mites because they live in the mattresses. As far as I've heard, bedbugs do not.

they actually don't spread illnesses, but they hurt like motherfuckers. the bite is about 50 times worse than misquitos.

They don't live in the mattress, but in the creases of the mattress. You may be able to remove the full-grown bed bugs from the mattress surface, but there could still be eggs and/or larva remaining so a cover is necessary.

I sadly laughed about this article, bed bugs might be good for millions of poor people. http://stossel.blogs.foxbusiness.com...nviro-torture/ Maybe now DDT will make a comeback.
