My favourite hotel in London. Good deals. Loved it since the late 70s. Georgian home in central London. 10 minute walk from Oxford St and Regents Park.

+ 1 on Durrants. Nice old-school ambience and great service. It's also next door to the aforementioned Wallace Collection

And just off Marylebone High Street behind the Wallace Collection. Great Location.

Wallace Collection is awesome. Great little trattorias on Marylebone High Street and Coffee Republic.

I'm not surprised though. LCI the owners are a bunch of idiots. The way they have run 235 casino in Manchester is a joke. 15,000 square feet and a reputed 20 million build budget and they couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery...

Amen. Schadenfreude comes to mind when they closed down.

Last year a friend was looking for a venue a large birthday party and we had a meeting with the manager at Fifty (after avoiding the night club for a couple of years). One of her pathetic arguments why it was a perfect venue for the night was that they "get a lot of footballers coming in". When I asked her whether this resulted in some sort of discount, she did not see the humour. We stuck to Annabel's for the dinner/party.

The Durrant sounds ideal. I think a visit to the bar at the Connaught would be enjoyable as well.

I was in London recently to do some volunteer work for a foundation, and the put us up in the Park City. http://www.theparkcity.com/ I think it is reasonable, the full townhouse ridiculously so for London. Wasn't horrible, although I missed the conviviality of the Stafford, where I usually stay these days...before it was usually at 47 Park. Anyway, check it out. It depends a bit on what part of London is best for what you have planned. - B

Please note that the Connaught has two bars. Do not go to the one immediately to the right upon entering - but rather continue straight ahead until you reach a wall and turn left. The first one is not bad - but the other one is just nicer.

So noted, thanks!

I've always enjoyed Number Sixteen ... on Sumner Place in South Kensington. It might be a bit more expensive than what you note ... but perhaps a bargain can be had.

Aster (no, not Astor) House just down the street at Number 3 might be a tad less expensive. At lease they used to be.

We went on a Sunday evening so the bar in the rear was closed. The front bar was a real delight. I ordered a martini and the barman poured 4 different small batch gins for me to try. They gave us some nice little munchies and there were some rather attractive young ladies around to add to the the view. Thanks for the suggestion. I would go back
