Has anyone been? Any tips? I'm going to try to get there in Feb.

Gotcha. And sorry for writing "never" three times....I was typing while in a meeting.

At Sapporo station there is an excellent kaiten sushi place called Nemuro Hanamaru. It is on the 6th floor of an office tower called JR Tower Stellar Place. Excellent sushi at a good price.

Near the station is Sapporo Ramen Kyowakoku, in the ESTA Building 10th floor. It has 8 ramen shops together in one location.

I went to a couple of the beer garden places that are operated by major breweries but thought they were just meh. But a good place to buy some beer glasses.

It will be packed during the festival so finding accommodation may be difficult. I stayed at The Monterey hotel near the station as we got a package deal and it was fine. Nothing special, though.

There is a small town called Otaru that is around an hour away by train. It is a nice touristy place that is famous for some sweets, sushi and glass-making. I have a feeling that it may be a bit boring for you.

Nikka Bar in Susukino is a very nice albeit very expensive bar that is worth a visit.

Check out Kitara, right outside of Susukino. It's a beautiful park, and there's a concert hall there, mainly for classical music.

Ramen alley has a ton of amazing ramen places. 800yen for a bowl.

There are some Gaijin Bars, but I don't think you'd be interested in that.

Great average priced Indian food, amazing naan, at Taj Mahal restaurant in the shopping arcade.

Besides ramen, Sapporo is also famous for soup curry. I've been to soup curry yellow which is pretty damn good.

I stayed at APA Resort this summer. They have an onsen on the ground floor... really nice. And the rooms are very large for Japanese standards.

Explain "soup curry" to me. I like curry rice. Is it just like a less thickened curry served sans-rice or something?

Something like that. It's a watery curry served with rice on the side. It's pretty tasty, and can be ordered spicier than anything I've ever had, which says a lot, having been to India multiple times. The wikipedia page is pretty accurate.

I wish there was baseball in Feb. I've always wanted to go to a Fighters game. Though I'm pissed about them trading in their ham-pterodactyl for a bear. Who "retires" a mascot? WTF.
