piano music recommendation, if you please

Good evening gents,

I am quite fond of classical, though i don't know that much about it.

I quite like Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, as well as Debussy's Claire de Lune

I love a piece I have by Chopin that in my library is simply called Op.Posth Nocturne in C# Minor, but I think it goes by another name as well.

Also a great fan of Erik Satie's Gnossienne, 1-5

I guess these all have a bit of a dark and lonely feeling, a cold beauty in a sense.

Based on this, can anyone give me any recommendations on something else along these lines that I might like?

Look up romantic era composers.

schubert and chopin

Lacrimosa by Mozart (orchestral or piano) is the first song that comes to mind when I think of loneliness, despair, with quiet beauty...but it might be a bit too dark in comparison to the songs you've given.

Nocturnes are all similar sounding, so if you like that "night" sound, those might be right up your alley.

The middle portion of Fantaisie-Impromptu is similar to a nocturne, and it has this fantastic opening and ending parts that are just amazing (once again, probably might be a bit different than claire de lune/ moonlight sonata but I think it has the same tone)

You should listen to Chopin's ballads which are pretty extraordinary. Chopin is the bard,the romantic of the piano music. He is really unmatched when it comes to conveying emotions through piano. If you only discovered one of his nocturnes - be prepared for a threat. Two favorite recordings I would recommend are Chopin's 4 Ballades and Scherzos played by Arthur Rubenstein and Vladimir Horowitz playing works by Chopin, Scriabin (sometimes called "The Chopin of Russia"), Rachmaninoff, Schubert, Scarlatti and others ("In the Hands of the Master"). Both of these pianists are some of the 20th century greats and the sound quality of these recordings is top notch.

If you want easily accessible music that will grow in depth with you as you become more mature, check out the enduringly popular Rachmaninoff concerti. 2 and 3 are the most famous, but I enjoy all 4 (and the Paganini variations).

Glad you enjoyed it; the transcription surprised me and ended up turning out better than I dared hope.

Can't go wrong with Chopin, Scriabin or Rachmaninoff--all great suggestions!

I don't know much about classical, but I've always enjoyed this one: The whole sonata is good, but part 2 is more accessible, I think.
