I agree with the above poster(s) that your diet is the main problem. If you're drinking soda or coffee/tea that has cream and/sugar in it, you might try cutting it out. Just eating less (or drinking less) in general will obviously help you lose weight. You mentioned beer specifically, but all alcohol has calories in it due to alcohol containing calories. If you eat a lot of cheese, that's also something to cut out. Also, increasing your intake of fiber can do some good.
I've also found that even if you're not exercising, doing pushups and crunches before you go to bed can help you tone up a bit. It hardly takes any time and you don't need a gym or weights. You can also do something like bouncing your leg while you're sitting at your desk during the day. Same thing with chewing gum. They'll both burn a couple extra calories for you.
