Honestly, don't bother. Odds are, you'll get ripped off and if you don't by this guy, you will by some other trade etc.
Don't go in with blinders on, but don't beat yourself up if someone else invariable says "you got ripped off, I know a guy who would have done it for half blah blah blah".

The way I look at those types of things is - sure I may have paid a few hundred to a grand or so more, but hey, if I focus on the big things that'll bring me a lot more money, who cares about small things like a couple hundred a yr.

Some might argue that it's the small pennies that add up over time, but seeing as most people don't think twice about their cable bill (usually >$1000/yr), why does a few hundred into fixing a car matter so much that we're willing to do so much to save a bit?
