Definitely one of the Vibram soles. I went with a white cristy on my rangers with four season wear in mind. If you want something with even more traction, you might want to go with the mini lug sole, although it might be overkill for anything less than a boot.

Has anyone purchased a pair of Gilman Camp Mocs? Did a search on this thread and came up with nothing. I've been looking for a pair of drivers lately and it's hard to find well-constructed ones that don't cost an arm and a leg. Only thing holding me back is they look a bit clunky on website. I was something sleek in the style of Car Shoe or Tod's. I was thinking navy suede w/matching stitching and red brick camp sole.

^^ The name "Gilman" has only very recently been added to the camp moc, so it is very doubtful that a search for that term would turn up anything beyond the Rancourt HP.

But, you're right, there has not been much posted here regarding the camp moc. And they do look much more clunky than sleek.

The Rancourt x Taylor Stitch page has a photo of a camp moc that somewhat approximates the shoe you are contemplating (navy x red brick).



I have been emailing back and forth with Rancourt to determine to what extent they can produce a camp moc version of this snuff suede Carmina String Loafer from The Armoury.



I asked about a number of modifications to the standard camp moc to approximate the loafer above, but have yet to hear word back about whether these mods are a possibility. I can let you know if or when I get a response.

1) Blind eyelets

2) Matched stitching

3) Shorter plug

4) A more chiseled last

5) Matched laces

6) "Rolled English Moc" stitching on the toe

Do you think the Pinch Penny Loafers in navy suede would achieve the look I'm going for?

I know that the blind eyelets are possible.
I'm getting a mto with that and the venetian shoe sole.

Well, I'm not really sure exactly what look you are after. And also not sure that the Pinch Penny loafer last is really any sleeker than the camp moc last. Can anyone comment on the whether Rancourt is using different lasts for their loafers (beefroll, pinch, weltline) and camp mocs?

Is your MTO for a camp moc? It sounds interesting, can you share your design specs?

Yeah I'm basically getting the camp moc with the 'sleeker' look of the venetian loafer in brown chromexcel.
Blind eyelets with chestnut rawhide laces.
I just placed the order this week, so I'll hope to have them in a couple weeks. I'll post pictures for sure.

But what do you mean by "camp moc with the 'sleeker' look of the venetian loafer"? Do you mean that you ordered a camp moc on a venetian loafer last (and, again, I'm not sure that these are different lasts)? Or are you referring to the sleeker look of the thin soles used on the Venetians?

And, you're right, Taryn King does seem to be in charge of MTOs. Hopefully that means quicker response times on my terribly tedious questions........

So I'm guessing that you mailed Rancourt (Kyle or Taryn) and requested a sleeker look? And they then suggested that they could build a camp moc on the sleeker Venetian last? If that's the case, then I guess it probably is sleeker. And I think that is what I will order. Might also be an option for RobSay 24.

I just emailed Kyle asking for venetian loafer with some laces and blind eyelets actually. The last sleekness wasn't a big factor for me, so I didn't look into it that much besides eyeballing the pictures.
I'm sure Taryn will get back to you with more details on some sleeker lasts/styling
