I just bite the bullet and ordered the ranger shell in green shell.
My barron boat is 7D and I ordered the ranger moc in 7E.
After a full day wearing the barron boat with normal socks, the outer side of my feet felt painful. Lengthwise it is ok.
I guess if I go sockless I will be fine, but I planned to wear socks with the ranger moc.
So I ordered one width up.
Plus if it really goes wrong a little bit, I could still counter it with the shoelace.

Let's hope my thinking is correct and the $600 will not go to drain....finger crossed...

Great choice! I think that sizing will work for
you.

FrankCowperwood: Did you go same size on your shell ranger mocs and shell beefrolls? I still may order those beefrolls from Rancourt, depending on how the AE 800 version fits. The 800 vs 114 concern was the main reason I decided to try the AEs first. My AE 114s have always run way too small, compared to 800s. Also, Rancourt does EE and AE does EEE for widths.

Meant to answer this earlier. Yes, I went with the same size for beefrolls and ranger mocs. Fit is good for the ranger with room for socks.

Tahnks! So the rangers fit a bit bigger, but by the margin of wearing with socks? I'm probably gonna hit up an AE store while I'm the city and get fitted on the 114s properly, and hope Rancourt is really using identical 114s.

Honestly, the seem to fit me pretty much the same way. My loafers are E width, and I'd probably go with D if I bought them again, but they are comfortable and so are the ranger mocs. Stopping in at AE to try on the 114 sounds like a great idea. Hopefully Rancourt is indeed the same!

Btw, for those interested, Katie got back to me. The Tempest is a $10 up from the leather, and there is a $50 custom charge, for the total of $60. That said,I've also been thinking strongly about doing a natural shell instead of #8 shell anyway, which should be the same price, if I'm already doing custom.

That's hardly anything for the actual tempest upgrade except of course that you had to pay the custom charge. I guess the extra rubber isn't that much after all. I wonder if you go with shell if they won't go ahead and wave the custom charge?

How do these look? I've had them for 3 months now. I wore them almost every day for the first 2 months due to a broken toe & these shoes were the only ones that didn't hurt to wear.

Sometimes I wear these and think they look rad, other times not so much. I think they look best with rolled-narrow cuffs.

I think they look good but maybe could benefit from a less dressy sock?

FYI - I was at Woodbury yesterday and spotted a few Rancourt X Jack spade models at the Jack Spade outlet store. The ones I wanted were the beefrolls with a suede vamp for $99. They only had 6 pairs in a 10 D unfortunately. They also had the familiar green and navy boat shoes for $99. In addition they had a few rancourt boot models that I wasn't familiar with.

I bought a pair of the JL Powell boat shoes and I have a small issue with them.

There's a grain of the calf leather right down the middle of the toe area. Not a big deal, but any idea how to hide (pun intended) that?

I don't want to send them back and I should note they're BRIGHT RED in color.

I'm liking the look of the wingtips that have popped up on their Instragram. The last looks nice. I might consider making a pair of those with a tempest sole my first pair of shell cordovan shoes. They would be indestructible and hopefully cheaper than Aldens.
