Sorry, I would spell it out, but spelling isn't my speciality.  Let me look it up.

I think Frank has a pair with the RLH, Frank?

Yes:

I definitely recommend it, though it is a very different look from a leather or Tempest sole.

Whoah, Frank you have one upped me in many ways.  But I will never top the green shell Ranger-mocc.  I surrender, sir.

fistbump.gif Ha ha. It's a nice shoe. Haven't worn it much over the winter for no really good reason, but it has started to age nicely.

Just received a pair of Vass in oiled green calf.

Jan 1. 2012, zero green shoes. Jan. 29, 2013, two pair green shoes. What can happen next?

Vass?  I'm going to pick your brain about that later.  I'm working on a pair of Loden green Vibergs. Green is good.

About to place an order, are there any SF codes or anything to be aware of before I pull the trigger?

I guess I really like the look of the leather sole but would like a hair more traction. The tempest sole seemed the closes but I might justnstay with classic leather

Happy to talk about it. Posted some photos in the Vass thread. Loden green Vibergs sound like they ought to be very nice.

None that I know of. Only discounts I've seen on Rancourt is when they go on sale at BB or similar. Some pretty good prices then, but you take what they have obviously.

Sounds like Tempest or classic leather is the way to go for you. Classic leather is really a fine sole from Rancourt. And if you decide down the line that you want something different, they resole in-house at a very reasonable cost.

How do you like your shell Ranger-Moc?

I currently own the beefrolls in natural CXL and love them. I am looking at a pair of loafers and a Ranger-Moc. I am kind of leaning towards the loafer in #8 CXL or Olive CXL and the Ranger-Moc in shell. I know it would be more conventional to do the loafer in shell and the Ranger in CXL but there is something that really intrigues me about doing the Ranger in shell.

These new LH soles Rancourt put up on Facebook look cool. I like that there's 3 colors now.

I have a pair of the shell in #8 and they become slipper-like very quickly as you break them in. The construction quality is excellent, in my opinion. The leather sole on Rancourts wears differently than an Alden sole, though, since the construction is different. I've also found it to be a little slick. You might consider the Tempest sole for more traction while still keeping the leather sole look. No personal experience with this.

I agree with FrankCowperwood that the Rancourt penny loafers are much more casual than Alden. I have a pair in the navy color shell and I love them. The shape and the stitching work great with chinos, cords, denim, and even shorts in the summer. IMO, my Alden loafers look pretty goofy when I try to match them up with anything much more casual than a good fitting chino or cord but do look better than my Rancourts with most of my wool or flannel trousers.

The casualness of Rancourt's offerings is their real strong point IMO.

I think shell is nice for a Ranger Moc. Mine are unlined and that makes them very lightweight. I've done some light hiking in them, worn them around town, etc. I think shell gets pegged as dressy, in part because of the cost, but I'd go for it in the Ranger Moc if that's what you want.

Very interesting. I wonder if they can do these in colors other than those shown. I need a shoe with a red sole. They have that in the boat and rubber moc soles, but RLH is nice. Keep telling myself I DON'T need a tan shell beefroll loafer on a red sole. smile.gif

Guys I got a call from Rancourt today with a suggestion of going 11D instead of 11E.
In my lace up AE I have gone 11E which is plenty roomy but can be laced up comfortable. But in Alden I went 11d in both my Barrie Md trubalance. On the black captoe shell not from alden NY I went 11e. So being unlined and a loafer "my first loafer in years" plus shell would you agree 11d
