Just an update on my Rancourt Venetian loafers bought from Brooks Brothers.

After my first wear, I put shoes trees in the shoe and upon my second wearing, the right shoe feels a little too loose now.

I bought the shoes (8.5D) a half size down from my Brannock size (9D) and they felt snug at first.

I also wanted to note that the sizing felt a little different between two different colors of the same shoe. When I first tried the brown I thought maybe I should buy the 9.5, but when the store received the Navy, I tried them on and the 9 was a little loose, so I decided to try on the 8.5D which felt good and should have allowed for a little stretch.

I guess the moral of the story is to try on shoes if you can before buying them even if they are the same shoe in a different color.

I no longer put these shoes in shoe trees for fear they may stretch more.

I've got the beef roll loafers in #8 shell. I can take some photos in a few days. My general opinion is that the quality of the shell and the quality of the construction are both excellent. I don't have any experience with Quoddy, but I do own Alden shell in several different colors.
The #8 is different from Alden, though. More of a satin finish and less gloss, I think. Seems to make it more scuff and scratch resistant in my experience.

Cool, thanks for the info. I don't think Quoddy does a Shell leather but I know Yuketen offers several styles in Cordovan and I believe they source it from Horween, as with most US manufactures. That is interesting that your Alden Shell's differ from the Rancourt.

Thinking hard about which Shell to buy as this will be my first pair. Favoring the Loden Green in a traditional penny loafer from Yuketen unless I can see some decent pics of the Rancourt. The hard part is I would have to wait like six months for the Yuketen.

Anyone have close-up pics of a Rancourt shoe (preferably inside and out of shoe) made of any Shell you don't mind sharing? Thanks.

Great thread. I'm visiting Rancourt next week and would like to get some loafers to replace an LL Bean made in Maine pair I've had for almost 25 years.

Someone posted that he had a pair of Venetian loafers made w/ a longer tongue (shoot, I forgot the proper name for this and Kyle just told it to me over the phone...).

Does anyone know who this was? I've searched high and low, and found nothing. I'd like to see pics of the loafers, particularly if they were made in shell.

Bummer that it'll be next week until delivery.

Thanks y'all. Really liking the loafers. Very comfortable. Forgot to mention when I first posted (since edited), but they are indeed CXL. Now that I now the sizing, some tan shell loafers are looking mighty nice.

Very nice.

nice pickups! beefroll looks really good for a causal shoes. enjoy!

Both look great. Brand new #8 is a fine sight. The loafers will definitely get to be even more comfortable as the break in, but handsewn feels good from the start, doesn't it?
Are both shell?

^ Looks good Kashiwa

Perhaps the term you are looking for is "plug"? Venetian loafers in shell sound excellent.

Venetian loafers sound very nice. Did you ask Kyle to do a version of a Leffot makeup for you? Which one?

Leffot called the shoes, ivy loafer.
Generic name is venetian loafer, that's what I ordered.

I also have the #8 beefrolls. They are nice. Don't you think the color is more
of a cherry red vs. the purple tinge of the Alden's?

I don't own any #8 shell from Rancourt, but your analysis seems spot on from the photos I've seen. These #8 shell loafers seem really red compared with the darker eggplanty tones of Alden.

Tan shell loafers:slayer:

Let us know how you like the CXL. I like shell. A lot. But the CXL I have is so nice. Comfortable and apparently indestructible.

Enjoy.
