Got mine today. #8 CXL, honey RLH sole, baseball stitching. Rounded down my size to 9D and they fit like a glove.

That looks really good! I didn't think I'd like baseball stitching on these handsewn shoes, but I like how yours turned out.

Y'all are making me nervous on sizing. I went TTS on my beefrolls, sure hope it works!

FWIW, if these were made of a stiffer leather then I think I would be wishing I had gone with 9.5 instead of 9. You will be just fine if you didn't size down.

^ this. I spoke to Kyle and he recommended a 10.5D in the beefroll since I am a 10D (slight wiggle room) in the Barrie with my shell lwb and 10.5D on the Grant last with my shell captoes. I plan on going sockless with the beefrolls. I'm 10.5 D/E on the brannock. What do you guys recommend??

I'd go with the 10.5D.

Well, I ordered CXL beefrolls, so there is bound to be some stretching. But if I had sized down to 11.5d, they would probably have been too short (I believe Frank Cowperwood has stated on here several times that it is not a long last), and I doubt there is going to be much stretch lengthwise.

@uninkco, if you are going for a non-cxl leather, then I think the 10.5d is a no-brainer. But with CXL and its stretch, I'm not really sure. 10.5C? I don't have hands-on experience so I can't really say.

Congratulations on putting your order in. What are the final specs you decided on?

My thought is it's always better to have a little too much room rather than too little. Too small and you aren't going to be able to wear the shoe at worst, and at best only with some discomfort. A shade too big and you can put in a tongue pad or an insole and you should be ready to go. I put tongue pads into my 11E beef rolls. They now fit comfortably with or without socks.

And, I hope I haven't steered you wrong on the length.

My beefrolls are scheduled to arrive in MI tomorrow, but won't be making it to me here in Japan until Jun 3. They are basically the standard #8 CXL with tan stitching, but I did ask for the medium brown edging.

Kyle also mentioned that going down a half size would make it too short, so you weren't the only helpful hand at the wheel. I'm sure the 12d will work well for me, just a bit worried about the CXL stretch on a lace-less loafer. But, there are correctives for that, as you mentioned.

Nice choice. Just to confirm, are you going for this exact sole?

A bit selfish, but I think you should go for it! Because I would really like to see what they look like. I toyed with the idea of that sole on the beefrolls for quite a while, so I can give you some of the advice I gleaned, but please don't let me steer you in any direction.

Kyle seemed to think it would be overkill when I asked him about it, and didn't really even seem to consider it. Thus, I dropped that discussion with him, but took it up with others. Some mentioned that there could be a greater potential for heel slip or that they would take longer to break in. Uncle Mac, of Alden fame, has a pair of double leather Alden LHS, and he told me, "the only thing you have to consider is whether you like the look".

Personally, I think they will look great!

that definitely gives me more to think about. with other loafers i have, i definitely experience heel slippage and so I am forced to place tongue pads to "correct" the issue as much as possible. since the tempest is chunkier, my priority was to dial in the size and width. thanks for the info Kashiwa!

Brown CXL pinch pennies with honey rubber sole arrived today, along with saddle shell belt. My office smells great right now. These shoes are my experiment with 11.5B (versus 11D) and I was a little worried looking at them right out of the box. However, slipping them on they seem like they should work out very well. They give a snug but not at all tight fit and I've got plenty of room in the toe. I'm going to wear them to confirm, but the question should become whether this sizing will apply across the Rancourt line.
The photos:

Saddle Shell Belt
Stitching and finish are beautiful. The color is really tan, with much less orange in it than Alden Whiskey shell. I'm now starting to wonder how nice a pair of Rancourt Shoes will look in this...

The CXL Loafers
I have a preference for shell, but this CXL is so nice, both supple and sturdy. And I know it's going to age well. Not sure if the color comes through here, but I like it.

Needless to say, very excited.

So after a week or so what is your current view on the sizing? still happy with your choice? what size are you Alden Barrie last (or other Alden last) vs. what you choose in Rancourt?
