help globetrotter build a new casual wardrobe - Page 6

this is what i mostly wear. some even rarely. maybe you could pick up a few ideas, i particularly like the suede bombers over the leather ones. there's a bespoke thread on those somewhere here. i also like rugby shirts.

2 eyelet burgundy dress shoes w/ chisel toe
chocolate suede penny loafer
dark brown leather venetian style driving shoes
tan leather sneakers

coffee cords
another one in navy cut like jeans
grey slim chinos
white jeans
the darkest washed 501's
another pair of jeans in a blueish green
a pair of cream/ light khaki shorts

lot's of plain t-shirts in black/ navy/ white/ grey/ light brown
1 rugby shirt (mine is just RL in navy with a white collar )
1 black watch team polo
lots of brooks brothers ocbd's in white
lot's of cheap asian bespoke blue shirts with a medium spread

a dark brown/ coffee bold striped v-neck
a wine colored v-neck

a cream windcheater in a technical fabric
a belstaff w/ no belt and rounded collar (not sure which model)
a brown suede bomber

a medium grey wool sportcoat 3b
a mustard linen suit 3b

some knit ties/ wool

given my loacation i rarely even use the belstaff or the suede bomber. mostly only for travelling during the christmas season. a peacoat always looks cool though.

thanks - that's sort of how I started, but I honestly did/do want some feedback, because I don't feel all that at ease with this, and I want to buy a bunch of clothes and forget about it for 20 years, more or less.

brands don't concern me much - I am actually interested in, for want of a better term "cultural perception" - I know how I dress with tailored clothing, and I don't really need justification or support with that. what I wear to drive my kids around, or hang out in the playground I want to know will fit in with middle class america, and I don't spend much time or have much interaction with it.

does that clarify what I am looking for?

GT,
one more voice that says Fuuma's got it all covered, can't add anything more than that. good luck, zach!

thanks - I've actually been looking around a lot at people who seem to be causally well dressed over the past few weeks, and Fuuma's post looks better and better to me. I am revising my ideas. In any event, I will probrably only start buying stuff in Jan/Feb, so I have some time to work on this

Yes, but it's a little crazy for people to just list stuff you should buy. HEre's how I remodeled my wardrobe. I bought a new pair of jeans and a couple of t-shirts. Then I gave away my old pair of jeans (kept one as a beater for mowing the lawn) and old/oversized/ugly t-shirts. Rinse, repeat (but with other articles of clothing).

Look at the WAYWRN or is WAYWT threads in this subforum for ideas. See what combinations and items catch your eye and start taking notes.

fair enough - although frankly this has been helpful, because a lot of things I hadn't thought or, of hadn't considered what I was looking for and then reconsidered them. the idea of a cotton jacket, for instance, I had never considered that type of jacket, and now it is something that I am considreing very seriously.

what I am trying to avoid is the nixon on the beach look, or at the other end, the 50 year old guy in surfer clothes.
