Oak Street Bootmakers - Page 61

Sort of weird question, but how tight are you guys tying the vibarim camp trail oxfords? I received my new shoes yesterday and I seem to be getting some heel slip except for when they're tied very tightly. Is that just how they're supposed to be worn? The length seems ok, maybe a thumb's width of room in the front (0.5"). I got these to wear w/ socks, and I'll probably wear them w/ thicker socks during the winter, but once it warms up, I'm hoping to wear them barefoot and w/ normal dress socks as well.

Unrelated to sizing, has anyone put Obenauf's on the brown trail oxford? It's supposed to rain tomorrow and I don't want to mess up the new shoes (assuming the answer to my first question is to suck it up and tie them tighter)

I guess I was hoping they'd be like my winter boat shoe, and I could just slip them on and off as I please w/o having to tie them tightly.

thanks for nothing guys...jk

Ended up talking to George and trading in for 11's, which is a way better fit. Just for reference, I'm an 11.5 in AE's and a 12 in Sperry's.

what size did you initially order?
11.5. I wanted to be able to wear them w/ medium-thick socks, but 11.5 was still too big.

if you had read the thread you would know that typically you get heel slip in all moc styled shoes. you can either go tts (dress shoe) or down a 1/2 size if you prefer a snug fit or dont plan to wear socks.

I second this.

As for your initial question, ACarlton:

I posted a bit earlier this month with a similar concern, but the fact is I'd now rather have the versatility to wear them with wool than not.

I'll also say, for any one else who is new to nice things and wants the input of a fellow rookie, that a shoe tree makes a big difference with these. I didn't get a set until I had these for a couple weeks, but they do a lot to return the shoe to it's original shape. After the first few wears the heel of my shoes started to look like a bowl. A night with a shoe tree fixes that.

I'll also say that you could look into heel cup. I have a bit of a Haglunds deformity, turns out, which prompted me to get a pair. But they make they entire shoe fit better on my foot, not just the heel.

I got an email back from Tony off OSB. I am a size 7C on the brannock device and told him I`d like to wear thick socks during the winter and loafer socks when hot. He suggested that I get a pair in 6.5C which is a custom order and thus can`t be returned/exchanged. After some reading on here, the laced models I should go TTS. Would you guys prefer to go with your usual dress shoe size and lace up a bit tighter or 6.5C and allow for it to stretch?

I got the trail oxford and true to brannock size works for me, even barefoot. With socks it feels snug; barefoot it is ever so slightly loose but still very comfortable.

I think Tony's "size down" advice might apply for those people with thinner feet, but people with D or wider might want to go TTS.

Do oaks come with shoes trees, or do you have to purchase them seperate..... I am thinking og ordering two pair of the Vibram oxford, but alos thinking of ordering the brown oxford with camp sole and blue vibram.... I have sperry so it is hard to justify the camp sole brown ones.... any help would be appreciated. Also it is my undertanding to order you Alden Barrie or Trubalance last.... In the shoes?

Seperate. But you mine as well buy the kit that comes with Venetian polish, brush and shoe trees for $40. The tree themselves are $30.

They do not come with shoe trees.

I had brown sperrys as well but I never wear them anymore. The oakstreets are a bit different style and the quality makes them so much better. I currently have the brown with camp sole and blue with vibram sole. I love them both but the blue leather is just fantastic.

I ordered the same size as my Indy boots for both. They started out a bit tight but stretched and fit perfect now, I can lace them loose for socks and tigher for sockless.

Yeah that`s what I am thinking. I will most likely go for the d width first before deciding if I want to get a custom one in C width since custom items aren`t returnable/exchangeable

I got wide feet (almost E width). Hope this helps sizing for someone.
