The final stage ITT in '89 when Fignon collapsed after crossing the finish and realizing he had lost to LeMond by seconds was epic.

Wow, that sucks. I remember that too...we were such cycling nerds in school that we'd make Fignon and Liggett jokes in class...

I still love Liggetisms, in fact I watch TdF more for his commentary than the actual race, at least until the mountain stages, then it's a toss up.

R.I.P., the man had panache, I am sure he faced cancer with the same spirit he raced his bike. (As an aside I hate when people refer to the passing of people who had cancer as "losing their fight with cancer" as Hinault did. This to me implies if the person had just fought harder or smarter he would of beat it)
