I need to buy a window air conditioner for my small room (12' x 10'). Any suggestions? Thanks!

i saw some on sale at lowe's the other day. just get one. if you want one with a remote, they're available but it really all just comes down to how much you want to spend. make sure it fits the opening.

For a room that size it doesn't really matter...unless you have bad insulation or massive exposure, the normal 5-6k btu units will work.

There are a few ease of use things to consider though...I just got my friends old unit which in addition to having more BTUs of power, has a few nice features:
Digital Settings - I can set a target temp which even if it isn't very accurate is better than twisting a knob from 1 to 5
Timer - Now I will be able to set it on for an hour before I head to bed and have it shut itself off once I am asleep...

Lately I've been impressed with how quiet and effective the LG in window units are.

If you want something to last forever, get a Friedrich or Frigidaire, even if they are a little noisier.

I have a Friedrich - quiet, but not powerful.

They cost more, but ones with thermostats are nice. That way you can keep your room bearable if you'll be out for a while without running it the whole time.

I guess most of my experiences with those units were the HUGE ones, like 10k BTU and up...generally ancient but still running hence the reliability comment.

You can't get HVAC or through wall AC? Are you renting?
