Are you good at languages?

I always thought that i'm good at languages. Though sometimes i'm shy because of my english, but basically it's ok. I also studied german at school for 5 years and used to speak it fluently, but haven't used this language for like 7 years already, so it sucks. But i still have a feeling that if i start to study it again, i'll reach my previous level easily. Sometimes i started to study languages spontaneously... swedish, finish, italian... even chinese. But my patience was enough only for several weeks of them

As i'm thinking now about moving to another country, i also plan to study the language, which is completely different to those i've tried before. So i feel myself stupid and useless trying to read all those words with sounds that don't exist in european languages

How do you usually study languages? How many can you speak fluently?

They say that every next language should be easier then the previous one... do you agree with this?

I speak Spanish. I am pretty sure Italian and Portuguese would be easy to learn If I just made any kind of effort.

I'm the same way, I speak German and English interchangeably at home and keep learning more. I'm just about fluent in Dutch, spoken Afrikaans(by extension, it's so close to Dutch that I can understand 95% of it and they can understand me. I don't know how to spell most of the Afrikaans words, but I know what they are when I read them), Swiss German(this is much more different from German than you'd imagine), and I'm learning French and Russian. I just like words. They're so much fun, especially when you compare the way different cultures have traits reflected in their grammar.

I'd agree each language is easier than the last, Dutch came very easily because of German and English, and you just build on concepts that you can relate other languages to.

I thought I was horrible at languages for a long time. I finally figured out that I just don't learn language well with the system that was used in my high school and university.

I pick up language rather quickly when immersed, and then I do some formal study to refine things.

I am American, and so only speak English. Though I've been wanting to learn another language for a while now... I took Latin in high school.

I'm fluent in Tetum and English, can manage some basic conversation in Portuguese and know a few rusty words/phrases of Indonesian, German and Vietnamese. My wife speaks American and some Vietnamese.
