Tell that to the bros who were doing olympic lifts before lifting shoes were invented. Let's not get dogmatic here. There are a few features that should ideally be present while doing olympic lifts, but it isn't as if you are only getting 50% of the benefit if you don't use shoes specially designed for the activity.
The forward wedge is essential. You can complete both lifts without Oly shoes, but not with nearly as much weight. In order to get low enough to get under a really heavy 2nd pull, you need the wedge or you will simply fall backwards if you try to get that low.
good shoe i wear these but only to squat/clean the rest of the time i just wear an old beat up pair of nike frees for those of you afraid to deadlift in socks, whats the big deal? slip your shoes off, pull the weight, put em back on, whatever i walk around in the gym in socks during my deadlift sets, i don't give a fuck and no one else seems to care
